We are wandering around beautiful Sorrento, Italy.

We just came here by an easy train ride from Naples where we have been staying for about a week.

The weather in Naples has been drizzly and cold, albeit, with a few sunny days in between. It was City Life there, and we prefer more nature and the sea.

So off to Sorrento we went!

And guess what?!

Surprises of all surprises, we found ... GELATO!

The front of this gelato store and Cafe

Coming out of the train station and into the center of town, there is this gelateria. It is strategically placed for tourists to enjoy a scoop before meandering too much farther to other tourist shops and to view the spectacular cliffs and sea bellow.

Well, of course, we had to stop!

Gelato choices

As usual, the variety of gelato flavors are displayed deliciously and ready for us to purchase.

Cups and cones are lined up along with small pastries and accompaniments.

Everything from melon to hazelnut

The back row has hazelnut, chocolate chip, pistachio and strawberry.

In front you have mocha, coconut and mango.

Some serious choices here!

Pistachio is a local favorite

The flavors of gelato are so remarkable and intense, it's hard to choose which one to purchase.

As you can see here, the greenish-brown one in the center back - Pistachio - is a local favorite.

Pistachios are grown in southern Italy and Sicily and are famous all over the world.

That coconut and mango looks pretty inviting as well.

Happy gelato server, Sorrento, Italy

One happy gelato server!

I couldn't pass over the coconut gelato...

I grew up in Ohio, where what they called "coconut" was a dried, sugared, shredded, and sometimes powdered rendition of what is actually COCONUT.

One could usually taste the box, if you know what I mean... Like powdered mashed potatoes, not quite like the real thing.

Having lived in the tropics for decades now, true, fresh coconut is marvelous.

Coconut milk is used in Thai cooking, Vietnamese and Indian cooking as well. There is nothing like that flavor!

In a gelateria you can get two flavors in one cup or cone if you prefer.

Double the pleasure double the fun!!

It's hard to imagine a trip to Italy without taking advantage of the many gelato stores.

Indulge!
