Boulenc
Bakery
Oaxaca, Mexico
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli

Oaxaca City is such a fun place to visit. The cultural variety is appealing,
and whether you come to learn about the
Colonial
history and architectuure, the music scene or the
cuisine and the
making of mezcal,
Oaxaca will capture your heart.
A friend of ours who knows
the city well took us to this outstanding bakery, supposedly the best in town!

A Boulenc sign reading: handmade bread
Apparently bread and pastries aren't the only
thing Boulenc is famous for. They offer homemade jam, katsup, local honey, and
kefir too.
There is a restaurant attached to the bakery.
Be sure to walk on back and have a meal.

Map with the location of
Boulenc Bakery and Restaurant
This Google map shows you
the location of Boulenc. Just below and to the right is the
Origen,
which we visited and had such a lovely meal.

Outside of Boulenc
Bakery
Do not be fooled by the
outside appearance!
It's almost like the owners
are trying to make this place the best kept secret in town. We could easily have
walked past without knowing the amazing offerings that were inside.
The restaurant is through
the door on the right, towards the back.

Stacks of baguettes and
a shelf of round loaves
Some customers brazenly say
that Boulenc has the best bread in the city!
Utilizing ‘Masa madre’
Boulenc specializes in making sourdough bread. This Masa madre is a natural
yeast fermentation formed with flour and water providing probiotics that give
their bread its character and unique flavor.
Yummers!

Advertising Calabaza pie
Calabaza is a squash, tasting like pumpkin. A
small individual pie is $2.50USD and a large one is almost $18USD.

Carrot cake muffins
These carrot cake muffins were the best. We
purchased some other pastries as well. They have fruit tarts, apple turnovers,
cookies, and cinnamon rolls.
Notice the home made jam in jars below.

Rounds, loaves and baguettes
The time of the day we arrived here was after
our breakfast and coffee. So it didn't occur to us to have another cup of java
or go to the restaurant in the back.
Our bad.
Next time we won't miss that opportunity as
we hear the restaurant connected to Boulenc is fabulous.
Notice the jams and sauces lined up on the
shelves at the right. Hot sandwiches are being made at the hot press in the
center, and various crisps are on a tray at the end of the table.
If you make it to Boulenc before we get back
to Oaxaca, and you visit the restaurant, tell us how you like it.
We hear it's a winner!
