L'Obelisco Restaurant
Lecce, Italy

We have been staying at a
Bed and
Breakfast in the Ancient Walled City of Lecce, Italy.
But there is a whole other
world - a modern one - outside of these walls.
This day, we took a walk
out of
Porta Napoli, down by the famous Obelisk and to the L'Obelisco Restaurant
for lunch.

Sign outside of L'Obelisco Restaurant
What first attracted Billy was this photo of
grilled meats. The selection was seared with flavor from the fire and looked
mouthwatering.
We thought we'd give it a try.
Tourists can easily overlook the small
entrance but the restaurant is quite popular with locals. Past the narrow
hallway, it opens up to these larger rooms.

Inside seating area
It was another cold, drizzly day in Lecce,
and we were happy to be indoors out of the weather.
L'Obeslico serves a variety of food
selections; Italian,
Pizza,
Seafood, Mediterranean and it also has a
Deli.

Outside seating area
The outside area looked lovely, but today was
not the day to try it.
However, our table had this view which was
attractive.

Liter of house red wine
The liter of house red wine was only $9Euros
and it had a light table-wine flavor like a Chianti.

Mixed grill plate
Billy ordered the mixed grill plate, but it
came out looking MUCH different from the photo.
Surprisingly, however, the meat was tender
and had delicious flavors.

Crustacean Ravioli
This ravioli was wonderful.
The inside was filled with the meat of
various crustaceans -- shrimp, crabs, crayfish -- and of course the sauce is
made from a reduction of the broth of their shells. Add some fresh tomatoes and
herbs, and
VOILA!
One fantastic meal.

Fresh cheesecake with fruit topping
After some deliberation, we asked our
waitress what we should share for dessert.
She suggested
the
house-made cheesecake with berry topping and fresh whipped cream.
It did not disappoint.

The bill for the two of us
Our bill, for the 2 of us came to $52.50Euros
or just over $57USD.
In Italy a cover charge (coperto) of $1Euro
is placed on the ticket per person. Here you also see that our 1liter of still
drinking water was $2.50Euros.
All of this was before tip, even though Italy
doesn't encourage tipping.
We enjoyed the helpfulness and cheer of our
waitress so much, we wanted to give her more.
Would we recommend L'Obelisco?
Surely!
