The Beaches
of Isla
Mujeres, Mexico

We were visiting
Isla Holbox
and since we were in the vicinity, we thought we'd take a couple of days and go
to Isla Mujeres.
After taking
a private
plane out of Holbox and into Cancun international airport, we then
took a
ferry to land on the island itself.
After checking into our
hotel and getting settled, the next day we took a walk around some of the
island's beaches.

Rocky coral and clear seas
As
a comparison
to Isla Holbox, the beaches of Isla Mujeres seemed a bit more rocky and the
sea produced heartier waves.
But the water was just as clear and both the
ocean and the sands were beckoning.
The outer water had a deep cerulean color.

Billy and Akaisha
Here we are with the sea behind us and the
sea breeze blowing through my hair.
What a life we live!
So grateful...

Coral on the beach
The natural coral formations here make for
some interesting jetties.
Back in the day of the Conquistadores, this
coral all around the area was used for construction of the foundations and walls
of forts.
Notice how clear the water is here. Isn't it
beautiful?

Coral on the bottom
One would certainly need water socks to walk
out into the sea here.
That coral is very sharp!
Still, it's a beautiful site and the water is
warm.

Tide pools on the sea's edge
What a different look than the sandbars of
Mosquito
Coast on Holbox!
Yet... just as beautiful.
We saw
tide pools here so you know when the tide comes in, this whole area is under
water.
Imagine!

The beach flattening out
After walking through the area of the tide
pools, we came out onto this flat section where it was easier to enter the
water.
People were enjoying both the beach and the
shallow, refreshing water.
Grab your beach towel and lie down under a
palm tree.
This was where one of our Readers recognized
us and came up to say hello! She recommended that we eat at
a locally
famous restaurant named Javi's Cantina.
It was a winner.
We recommend that you go there too!

Akaisha knee-deep in warm waters
I'm having fun and taking it all in.
You can see the man behind me who is out at
the large hunks of coral, and he is still only waist-deep.
The water was clear and lovely.

Further down at another beach
After spending some time swimming and
relaxing under a palm tree, we went further down to another beach.
This one was wider and the sand was soft.

A wider, more open beach
It was a lovely day, and it was easy walking.
This beach was very appealing with its wide
open vista.

Sea grass on the beach
This is the same beach, but further back on
the shore.
The sea grasses look so beautiful against the
turquoise color of the ocean.

Beach lounges
A couple of these beach lounges look a little
hard on the bones unless you had a soft towel or a yoga mat.
Still, what a great way to spend the
afternoon!

Lots of choices here
These look much softer!
Now, just a triangle pillow so I can read my
book and I'm all set to go.
Isla Mujeres is a very popular beach
destination in Mexico. It's much more developed and offers more than
Holbox,
but both are great.

Yachts moored out in the sea
These yachts look like fun.
I don't know if they are tour boats or if they are private.
All in all, the beaches of
Isla Mujeres are worth visiting.
Restaurants weren't bad
either!
See you there!
