We had just arrived on Isla Mujeres first by private plane from Holbox, then a ferry right onto the island.

After we checked into our hotel and got settled in, the next day we went walking around the island..

Then unexpectedly - right on the beach - one of our readers recognized us and came up to chat!

What a happy and humbling experience.

As a parting gift, she mentioned that we must eat at Javi's Cantina, and to order the Parmesan Crusted Filet.

It was her very favorite.

Well alright then... Let's go!

We walked to Javi's earlier than our dinner time to make sure what days and hours they were open.

We were in luck!

They only serve dinner and are closed Wednesdays, so we decided to return later.

Javi's Cantina is a simple place with an indoor/outdoor style of seating.

The restaurant has been converted from Javi's family home where music and good food were everyday happenings.

One enters through another section of the restaurant then we walk down a short hallway into this more expansive area which used to be the back courtyard of Javi's home.

The tree you see  in this photo was planted by Javi's Grandfather, Esteban.

Live music plays beginning about 7pm.

As you can see, Javi's is quaint but sufficient.

We looked forward to our meal with delicious anticipation.

While this restaurant is simple, it offers a good variety.

Fresh and Local Seafood, Crostinis, Burger Sliders, salads and a selection of prime beef cuts.

They even have carpaccios!

Javi's wife, Marla, is from Alabama, and ads her southern touch with Javi's Caribbean flavors.

Well, here she is!

The long-awaited Parmesan encrusted filet, served with a tamarind sauce, grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes.

It was fresh, moist, and flavorful.

Later on in the week we met up with friends and brought them back to Javi's with us.

They, too, enjoyed their meals and the ambience as well.

We had just given them Retire Early Lifestyle ball caps which you can see on the table top.

Would we return?

Absolutely!!
