Medieval
Marvel and Beach Paradise
A Walk to the Harbor
Cefalu, Sicily

Cefalu is an international gem that captures hearts with its
exquisite beaches,
rich
history, and undeniable charm. This upscale town
seamlessly blends its medieval past with modern amenities, making it a haven for
sun-seekers, history buffs, and everyone in between.
Today, Billy and I are
taking a
pleasant 25-minute stretch from Cefalu's
vibrant downtown area towards the
picturesque harbor. Along the way, we see captivating views unfold – the town's
terracotta rooftops, the glistening Mediterranean Sea, a solitary lighthouse
standing guard, and finally, the port itself.

Map of Cefalu, showing the Porto
This Google map displays our starting point
and our destination.
This fairly easy walk showed us some fine
scenery along the way, and it's an easy jaunt we would recommend that you take.

One of Cefalu's beaches
Cefalu has many beaches to enjoy, each with
its own charisma.
The waves might be gentle or vigorous, and
the sand could be pebbly or soft. There are small, private types or larger, more
public stretches but all are beautiful.
The views never fail to enchant, like
pictures out of a storybook.

Beautiful Via Giudecca on the way to Porto
Most of the walk is on flat pedestrian
streets, making it a straightforward stroll.
The name of this street is Via Giudecca,
named after the Jews who have lived in Cefalu since the 7th century.
The Jews have had an on-again, off-again,
on-again relationship with this island of
Sicily.
And in this current era, they are thriving.

La
Rocca
This is another view of
La Rocca, as it is a defining feature of Cefalù’s landscape. You can't
hardly miss it, no matter where you are in this town.
It is a sheer limestone cliff that rises over 270 meters (nearly 900 feet)
above sea level, so it is quite imposing.

Capo Cefalù Lighthouse
Built in 1900 and electrified in 1930, this
lighthouse has been ensuring safe passage for sea craft for over a century.
The lighthouse itself is only 26 feet tall.
However, situated at 260 feet above sea level, the light can be visible for up
to 25 nautical miles.
No one is up in the tower, but rather it is
managed by automation through the
Italian Navy.

The harbor of Cefalu
Located on Via Presidiana, this beautiful
small harbor has docking space for yachts and leisure boats.
Several companies offer boat tours around the area, allowing you to explore
hidden coves, admire the dramatic coastline from a different perspective, or go
snorkeling or diving.

Another angle of the harbor
Spending time here is a relaxed alternative
to the larger beaches, perfect for soaking up the Sicilian
atmosphere while still enjoying the proximity to the historic town center.

Boat house
You can arrange for sailing tours here at
this boat house, or perhaps rent a motorboat.
A small restaurant is inside where you can get a simple meal, a soda, coffee or a beer.

Boat rental information
Here ya go, all the information you need to
rent a boat to take around the Cefalu coast.
Cefalu is such a picturesque place. Why not
see as much of it as you are able?
