France

We arrived to
our hotel in the Latin Quarter
of Paris and set ourselves up in the room. Then we walked a few steps across the
street for a meal.
Conveniently, there was this snug restaurant which promised warmth from the cold
and an interesting menu.
Since it boasted two Traveler's Choice awards
(2020 and 2021), we were hopeful.

The Entrance to Linvitee
With bright blue awnings and trim, the hours,
awards and the credit cards taken were all posted in the windows.
Our hotel room is just to the left, outside
this photo.

The menu
Apparently, there are daily menus which
change according to the chef, and they are in both English and French.
In contrast to our long-ago visit to France, I found
this polite concession to non-French speakers to be refreshing.
The Salmon starter and the Supreme chicken
looked good!

Entree menu in French
When we don't have an English menu on our
travels,
we utilize Google Translate, which is a lifesaver!

Salmon appetizer
This lovely salmon had a dill avocado cream,
pine nuts on Brioche toast.
Beautifully presented, the flavors were
remarkable.

Chicken with cream sauce
This delicious country chicken had a creamed
cauliflower sauce with crunchy fennel and orange dollops.
We were sharing this meal, and the flavors
were very satisfying.

Sweet potato streusel
This delicious dessert was a sweet potato
streusel with toasted hazelnuts and chocolate drizzle.
Another elegantly presented plate.

The bill for the two of us
Our bill, including a bottle of Chardonnay,
came to $74 Euros, or about $77USD.
One thing to note, is that - unlike Italy
where one can
get a carafe or bottle of wine for $6-9Euros - French wine is full
price with no table wine option.
This Chardonnay was 3-4 times what we would
pay in either
Sicily or Italy.

Salad
An unusual and delightful roasted piglet with
date cream, vinaigrette and arugula salad.

Tarte
This was a citrus tart in pastry with white
and dark chocolate, candied orange.
The French really know how to do it!

The bill for 4
When we were in France in 1979, we made
friends with a French couple on the Isle de Re.
All these years later, we are still in touch,
and Marie and Alain came to visit us in Paris.
What a delight!
We had a wonderful meal here at L'invitee and
here is the bill for the four of us.
$182.50 Euros or about $190USD.

Foamy side dish
We had such good luck in our choices at
L'invitee, that we thought we'd try this "foamy" side dish.
Unfortunately, it did not hit the mark.
I appreciate the effort and the creativity,
however... um... no.
Definitely did not do it for us.
But hey, our success percentage was great.

Angus beef with fries
Because our hotel was just a stone's throw
away, Billy and I came here often to eat.
This is a good ol' standby - steak and chips.
It was big enough for the both of us to
share.

At L'invitee
We have a window seat here
while we are eating our lunch.
Our hotel is to the left
outside the photo and across the street.

Ice cream and chocolate
This dessert was hazelnut ice cream,
chocolate fudge and a hazelnut cream.
This restaurant is an exceptional find and so
conveniently placed for us.
Set lunches start at $20Euros.
Would we recommend L'invitee?
Absolutely!
