Retirement; like your parents, but way cooler

In 1991 Billy and Akaisha Kaderli retired at the age
of 38. Now, into their 4th decade of this
financially independent lifestyle, they invite you
to take advantage of their wisdom and experience. |

Taking a Look at the Grounds
of Hamilton Beach Villas and Spa
Luxury Living on the Beach

This was our second stay at
Hamilton Beach Villas and Spa.
Our first occasion here was
just for 10 days, and we decided that we enjoyed it so much, we had to come
back.
We had arranged for a
6-week stay, and were looking forward to it.
Ozzie, our taxi driver
picked us up at the
Vance W. Amory
International Airport (NEV) in Nevis, and took us right to the door of our
villa.

The entrance
There is one main artery that goes around
this 36 square mile island.
The entrance to the Hamilton Beach Villas
intersects with this road. Ozzie drove down this gracefully winding entrance and
into the complex to drop us off.
There is a pond to the right, and looking
straight ahead is the ocean.

Yachtsman Grill sign at entrance of
Hamilton Beach
This shows another angle of the entrance to
Hamilton Beach.
Yachtsman Grill is very conveniently located
on the beach, a 3 minute walk from our villa.
The Yachtsman is perfect for those who stay
at Hamilton, and it's also open to the public.
They serve a specialty Rum punch-and-lunch to
those coming over from the cruise ships for the day, and sometimes there is live
entertainment in the evening which is advertised island-wide.

Walkway between rental villas
"Our" villa is the one in the center of this
photo, first floor.
Mount Nevis is clearly seen in the
background.
While the last eruption from this volcano
occurred approximately 100,000 years ago, there are no recorded eruptions since
human settlement here. However, in 1953 a hot spring formed and there are
fumaroles and other hot springs all suggesting that Nevis Peak is a potentially
active volcano that could erupt again in the future.

Wading pool
These gardens are truly
tropical splendor.
Gardeners worked daily,
cleaning this wading pool and trimming the greenery which grew like wildfire.
The gym and spa are to the
left outside the photo, and the Yachtsman Grill and sea are to the right.

Another wading pool
If the sea with its
unpredictability is not for you or your children, there are these sun bed
loungers arranged right in the wading pool for you.
Read a book undisturbed,
fall asleep, or spend some time with your young ones without sand getting into
their bathing suits.
We'd walk past this pool
daily on our way to the beach or to have a coffee, meal, or happy hour at
Yachtsman.
Often young children - who
were having the time of their lives - would call out to us waving: "Hello!! Have
a blessed day!"
How refreshing.

Wading pool
A wading pool with a
graceful shape.
This gives you a good view
of the gardens and various villas.
Gym and spa are behind us,
and the beach is straight out of the photo going left.

Stairs to gym and spa
On this patio here is a wrought iron table,
chairs and a sun umbrella.
You can sit here with your morning coffee and
read or later on, have a cold beer and enjoy the gardens.
Tennis courts are up the steps and to the
left, gym is straight up these steps and the spa is to the right.

Tennis courts
There is only one tennis court on the
grounds.
The best time to play would be mornings and
late afternoons, as the midday heat is too oppressive.

Workout room
This is a small work out
room, but it has a treadmill, stair stepper, weights of various sorts and a
stationary bicycle.
Filled with natural light,
it was also air-conditioned for your comfort.
We came here every morning
to use the stationary bicycle, which had a super back support.
With it being literally a
one-minute walk from our place it couldn't be more convenient.

Wading pool looking
towards Yachtsman Grill
The villa in the center
background is an example of those that have beach and ocean views. With several
bedrooms, indoor and outdoor kitchen areas, dining rooms, living rooms and
rooftop terraces, these units are made for families or groups of couples.
The Yachtsman Grill is the
building with the brown awning.
To the right of the Grill,
is the ocean and beach.

Akaisha with Warrior Princess
This is the view of the sea from Billy's
"Office."
Daily we would swim here and visit with the
help who served us cappuccinos or beer, depending on the time of day.
This young woman had an African name that
translated to Warrior Princess.
As much as I tried, I couldn't remember the
African name, the one picked out for her by her Father.
Warrior Princess spoke wistfully about her
Father one afternoon, as he had recently passed. They shared a love of music and
their senses of humor were similar.
Warrior Princess was ambitious and was
nobody's fool. She was kind, smart, and funny.

Sunbeds and shaded area
This is the beautiful beach
at Hamilton Villas called Pinney's Beach.
In the distance is the
sister island of St. Kitts, which you can visit by water taxi. There is an
airport on both St. Kitts (SKB) and of course, the one where we landed, NEV.
Since Nevis has no deep
water port, cruise ships cannot land here - which keeps the island quaint and
local.
However, tender boats take
passengers here to this restaurant to have a day at the beach. Yachtsman Grill
prepares them a rum punch and a special lunch menu, which they seem to
thoroughly enjoy, and then the tender boats take them back to their cruise ship.
It's a win-win for everyone
because Nevis stays fairly uncorrupted by the mass crowds from cruise ships
invading the island. Think duty-free stores,
diamond
shops, large liquor stores and overrunning the sweet Caribbean culture of
the island.
And the waitstaff and
restaurant make some money with the cruise ships staying 4 hours or so on their
beach.
Not too little, not too
much.

Billy and two of the
servers at Yachtsman
Billy is here with two of
the servers at Yachsman, with Warrior Princess in the middle.
When we arrived
on Nevis in 1991, we helped open the
Four
Seasons Resort and Restaurant. It was the first of its kind on the island.
Thirty-four years later, there are more restaurants and hotels now offering
employment to islanders both local and from other islands in the West Indies
chain.
While
Nevis has changed a lot
in those 3 decades, it's at a slower pace and is managed fairly well.
Nevis is like a
neighborhood, not a faceless, massive, high-rise monstrosity as seen on some of
the other islands.
We are grateful for that.

Covered beach platform
at night
Isn't this beautiful?
We watched sunsets almost
nightly here at Pinney's Beach.
The colors were dramatic
and sweeping.
As you can see, there are
deep blues, and sometimes we would have golden peach or flaming orange mixed in.
Dramatic and mesmerizing.

Stunning sunset
Here's an example of a stunning sunset with
the golden colors blazing the sky.
Every night it was different, and nightly, we
watched Nature's show.

A front view of the Yachtsman Grill
Yachtsman Grill faces the sea, so every table
has an ocean view.
The menu is interesting and it gets good
marks around the island for the food served here.
There are happy hour specials and the
restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There are special holiday meals also, say for
Thanksgiving and Christmas.

View of the Villas from the sea
Here you get the full view of the villas with
a sea view, with Yachtsman Grill in the center.
The Caribbean water here is warm and
welcoming, and the sea isn't too rough.
While swimming in the ocean at this location,
St. Kitts is to the left.
Staying here was like a dream come true.
Would we recommend Hamilton
Beach Villas and Spa?
Without a doubt.
