Hotel Los Arcos
Isla Holbox
Yucatan, Mexico

In making our plans to
visit this particular area of the
Yucatan in
Mexico, we thought we'd stay in
Chiquila for a
couple of nights then move on to
Isla Holbox.
As it turned out,
Chiquila
was a bit of a bust. It could have been the timing, the weather or that this
town just isn't developed enough for us. Stores were closed as well as
restaurants and bars.
We ended up leaving
Chiquila
a day early by ferry, and arriving on the island before our reserved hotel
was ready for us.
We walked around town, and
found Hotel Los Arcos and made arrangements to stay there for the night.

Bright pink and white
Located on
the main
street, Hotel Los Arcos
was open and available.
Well, almost.
A room would be ready for us in a couple of
hours, so we had time to spend walking around checking out the island.

The reception desk
We walked in off the street and spoke with
the owner about renting a room for the night.
She was a bit humorless, but accommodated us
and said a room would be cleaned and ready in a couple of hours.
The price was 1,000 Pesos a night for 2
people, about $50USD.

The garden area of Hotel Los Arcos
After walking around, having a bite to eat
and a cappuccino
and smoothie it was time to return to the hotel.
Our room was ready and so were we. We dropped
off our bags and took a look around the place.
Hotel Los Arcos had some nice gardens, and as
it turned out, it was a quiet and clean place to stay.

Our room was in the corner here
We had privacy, plus an outdoor table and
chairs on a small patio.
WiFi is only available in the hotel lobby,
but we were able to adapt because we have data on our phones to connect to the
internet.

Our room
Our room was clean, had two double beds, a
table and a nice area to place our clothes and gear.
Hot water was great and so was the water
pressure.
We later learned that both of these turned
out to be an asset to staying in this hotel.
Would we return!
YES!
Full disclosure: We made reservations
at a very nice upscale hotel on the beach,
Hotel Diosa Kali, but it turned out
that the hot water and pressure were an issue to maintain there. Also,
curiously, the hotel offered "free" earplugs due to the bands in the bars nearby
that played until early mornings. While there were very good things about Hotel Diosa Kali, (the amazing breakfasts included in the price of the room, the
upscale surroundings and fabulous king-sized bed) when push comes to shove,
having a quiet room and running hot water is basic and rather essential.
For about half the price, we would choose to
stay here in Hotel Los Arcos and have a good night's sleep.
