Best Roof Top
Bars in Cartagena
Cartagena, Colombia
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
We loved our visit to
Cartagena, Colombia.
Such a
colorful, Caribbean city, with international cuisine,
Palenqueras, great food and a
Colonial past.
Spending time in the tropics, sipping on
a Caribbean Rum or pina colada, looking out to sea, one of the things we enjoyed the most was
the selections of rooftop bars. Some charged a cover fee (can be $50USD!) or required a
certain amount of spending if you were to enter.
However, below are rooftop bars that were
free to get in. Several offered live DJs for wicked music, and some had
amazing food.
Take a look!
The Mirador Gastro Bar
Located near the Torres del Reloj and the
Plaza de las Coches,
The Mirador Gastro Bar has a great view of both the Plaza below and the
Caribbean Ocean canal. This is where centuries ago, ships brought in cargo
to this famous international seaport.
Serving Peruvian food, some with a
distinct Japanese influence, we would certainly recommend trying out some
appetizers or sharing a meal here.
We shared a stuffed chicken breast with
bacon and caramelized apples which was astounding.
Colored lights add some pizzazz for
out-of-the-ordinary atmosphere.
Open Daily 5pm - 3am

The Alquimico Rooftop Bar
We passed by
The Alquimico several times. The
bottom floor has a display window showing off all their handmade fruit
juices, bitters, tonics, and cordials. The "Alquimico" means the Alchemist
or the Chemist and Cartagena is known for their unusual blended drinks.
They also have a decent food menu. We
shared crab sliders and seared rare beef paired with vinegar rice and an
Asian dipping sauce.
You can choose to sit on any of their
other posh three floors - a step back in time - to have some privacy. The
upstairs rooftop is a bit more casual with a jungle mural on the wall.
Open nightly, 6pm to mid-morning.

Cafe Del Mar
Dubbed as the best place in town to watch
the sunset, we went to
Cafe Del Mar
on our 2nd night in town.
Yowza
With seating literally for hundreds of
people, this bar is on top of
the
Colonial walls of the Old Town, with a screamingly good view of Boca Grande
(which you can see in the background of this photo). Boca Grande boasts the
highest real estate values and best hotels of the whole country of Colombia!
We were told that Cafe Del Mar serves
food, but even after asking several times, we could not get a menu.
No worries,
with an unbeatable play list of great music
this bar is a must-see when you visit Cartagena.
Open nightly at 4:30PM until 2AM

Hotel Movich Rooftop Bar
A little cozier than Cafe Del Mar,
the rooftop bar at Hotel Movich had
a live DJ and an excellent food
menu. It seemed that the clientele base was international, The Beautiful
People coming from
Europe, Asia, the US and Latin America.
Billy and I shared a dish of Carpaccio of
Octopus with delicious olive oil, mango and fresh bread. We also had mixed bruchettas of Smoked salmon, Serrano ham, roast beef, and tuna served with a
sweetened soy sauce drizzle.
The food here was so good,
one afternoon we went back for lunch.
In fact, we think this
place had some of the best food in town.
Definitely recommended.

La Jugada Rooftop Bar
Earlier in the week, we stopped by
Alquimico Rooftop Bar (across the street here in this photo) and saw the
famous Flamingo birds on this roof. Curious, we had to check it out, and
found that this was another bar With various views and a food menu!
Soo...
Off we went a few nights later to
La Jugada
to try them out.
It was here that we had
Tropical Ceviche.
We had the distinct feeling that this
place gets to rockin' much later in the evening, maybe beginning around
midnight. Open daily 5pm to 4am

Most certainly, when
you visit Cartagena, make a few stops at their many rooftop bars for an
exciting evening and a meal.
