La Jugada,
Rooftop Bar
Cartagena, Colombia
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
We continued our journey through the
Colonial City of Cartagena, Colombia for
fun and lively rooftop bars.
We discovered this one because we sat at
Al Quimico a few nights before, and had noticed the flamingo statues on
the roof! Thought
we might check it out.

La Jugada Entrance
This was a nice entrance, and the menu
was posted on the wall. We were told that it did not have an entrance fee,
nor a minimum to spend like some other places in town, so why not give it a
try?

The first floor
The first floor of La Jugada was
attractive, but we were interested in the
rooftop view.
That meant about 5 floors up!

Bartender on our level
Once we broke out of the interior of the
building, we noticed that there were three different rooftop locations.
There was one open-air terraza below us
and one above.
We made the decision to stay at this
second level for no particular reason, and we had a nice view of
Al Quimico across the street.
Notice the box of striped straws on the
right in the photo. These are made of plant material and are biodegradable.

Our view of Al Quimico across the
street
This is a lovely view of Al Quimico
rooftop and their delightful tropical mural.
As you can tell from the angle of this
photo, we are another level up from this bar.

The "famous" Flamingos
These are the Flamingos we saw from Al
Quimico a few nights past. We don't know the significance of them, other
than they are a tropical bird and being on the rooftop brings attention to
La Jugada. They happen to be part of the interior decoration of the bar as
well, and as a backdrop print on the menu.
From our middle rooftop location, you can
see the patio bar below us. There is one above us as well.
All of these areas in La Jugada are cozy.

Our menu
We have been having good luck with
sharing appetizers at these rooftop
bars, so we decided to order the Ceviche Tropical under the "Para
Compartir" menu.
Generally, when ordering from the Shared
Menu, portions are big enough for two or more people. Because this was
Ceviche Tropical, we anticipated mango, papaya, pineapple or other tropical
fruits along with the fish.

Pretty, but underwhelming
Kind of dinky, isn't it?
As you might remember, at
Hotel Movich Rooftop Bar we had a Carpaccio of Octopus that was simply
gorgeous and actually huge.
To have this tiny bowl with bits
delivered... well, we were disappointed.
Still, the fish was very fresh, and the
sauce was a citrus/mango flavor.

Our bill
Our bill with a bottle of water, two
rums, the ceviche and automatic tip came to $27USD.
While we understand that this bar gets
rocking later on in the evening, compared to some other locations we have
visited, La Jugada was just disappointing.
Perhaps on your visit, you might find it
otherwise.
