Anzio, located right on the Tyrrhenian Sea, offers not only seafood restaurants but international choices as well.

On our first day in this seaside town, we were waiting for our hotel rooms to become available, and decided to go and have a quick lunch.

Just a stone's throw from our hotel, we discovered Aras Kebab Pizzeria.

We saw the roasting meat from the window and thought we'd try one of the Kebabs. These are also known as Gyro sandwiches.

Due to Italy's location, she and Turkey have a long history of cultural exchange, so it wasn't too surprising to see a Turkish restaurant here in this seaside town.

Many Turkish people have chosen to make Anzio their home due to its pleasant coastal location and proximity to Rome.

We were pretty tired from our overnight flight from Guadalajara to Madrid, then Rome, plus the taxi ride from Rome to Anzio.

So when we walked into Aras' we just wanted something easy to order. Billy and I both chose the #2 plate.

The menu all in pictures

At this point we were very happy to have the menu in pictures, and something we could just point to. We had not started to use our Google Translate yet, so our Italian was nil.

This photo shows you the grilled meat on the vertical spit which looked so yummy. The meat on these can be thin slices of marinated lamb, beef or chicken and the stacked meat rotates slowly, allowing it to cook evenly and the juices run together. This is called a Doner Kebab and is a very popular street food option.

If you look on the photos closely, the #2 option offers a Piadina Kebab.

Piadina is a thin, unleavened bread typically rolled out into a circular shape and cooked on a hot griddle or flat pan. It's sort of like an Italian version of pita bread.

Piadina is a traditional Italian flatbread and a staple of Italian cuisine.

Here, the man is assembling our Piadinas with various toppings, It is then folded in half to enclose the fillings, similar to a sandwich or a quesadilla.

It was delicious!

Pricing was reasonable, and service was quick.

Would we recommend Aras Kebab?

Yes! especially if you want something quick and affordable to eat.
