Across the street from our
hotel in the quaint town of Anzio was a rooftop bar which offered a prized view
of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Roman Emperor Nero had a
villa here centuries ago, and this rooftop bar was placed right at the beach
that carries his name.
Have you been to a
rooftop
bar? They are so fun, being elevated up from the bustling activity below and
while you are having a beverage and a snack, you can enjoy a panoramic view of
your location.

It's always good to start a pictorial with a
map. In this way you can tell right away where you are.
Anzio is located in southern Italy about an
hour's drive south of Rome and north of the jet setter destination of the Amalfi Coast.
Al Terzo is popular!
This bar is a popular location especially on
the weekends to watch the sunset, have a drink, and savor some appetizers.
Upbeat music is being played while we are
enjoying the spectacular view below and the
dipping of the sun into
the sea.

The drink menu at Al Terzo
Here's a part of the menu at
Al Terzo Rooftop Bar. Prices are in Euro, of course, and with your drink you are given
appetizers.
A beer runs just under $7USD and a mixed
drink is about $13USD.
Our happy waiter
What a happy guy! This was the young man who
took our order and delivered our drinks. In the background in the upper right of
the photo, you can see our hotel.
For several days during our stay, we would
have lunch on our balcony and enjoy people-watching in the streets below.
This was particularly interesting on weekends
and the National Holiday in Italy that we observed, called
Liberation Day.
Lido de Nero
The view here is of Lido de Nero, or
Nero's Beach.
The city of Anzio is part of ancient Antium,
eventually conquered by the Romans.
Emperors Nero and Caligula were both born in
Antium and they - as well as Cicero - had villas here.
The park on the right is named after Nero,
and the ruins of his beach summer house is right after the wharf.
Our drinks and appetizers
Billy ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and I
had a Negroni.
Mind you, a Negroni isn't my absolute
favorite drink. However, decades ago when Billy and I first visited Italy, a
waiter suggested this cocktail while we ate at a famous Michelin restaurant
named Santorni in Milan.
I was young, it was a romantic lunch, the
food was fabulous and beyond my imagination. I don't even remember the waiter
giving me the 2nd drink. Oh dear. But in honor of this occasion, I ordered a
Negroni once again to celebrate.
Truthfully, I believe I have had 4 Negronis
in 4 decades!
The bartender
Here's a photo of the mixologist at Al Terzo.
Behind him you see more of the coastline,
hotels and other restaurants. This area is simply gorgeous.
As I mentioned, music is playing, the sun is
beginning to set, the temperature is lovely and the view - So. Very. Nice.

Our bill for two
The bill for 2 drinks and appetizers came to
just under $20USD.
In Italy, there is no tipping. One is charged
a "cover fee" per person most any time and any place where you sit down.
Would we recommend Al Terzo Rooftop Bar?
