Morelia
Rooftop Bars
Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
Morelia is a beautiful Colonial City in Central Mexico. Gorgeous
architecture, international restaurants, a clean environment and lovely
weather all make this city a must-see.
While visiting there, we discovered a few
rooftop bars, cafes and restaurants. It's a terrific way to view the
bustling city below.
Come take a look!

The view from the rooftop Hotel Restaurant
Los Juaninos
Not far from our hotel, Los Juaninos was
a rooftop location we visited several times. Here you can see the full view
of Morelia Cathedral, a Baroque-style, Roman Catholic Cathedral located in
the center of the city. Many consider this Cathedral to be Mexico's most
beautiful and it dominates the Centro Historico.

The entrance to Hotel Los Juaninos
If you enter here from the City Center
#39 Sur, just tell those at the
desk that you want to go to the
rooftop for a meal or a drink. They will
direct you to the elevator which is straight ahead, and up you go!

Chilean wine for Happy Hour
This particular visit we had a bottle of
Chilean Cabernet and watched the sun set.
The stones of the Cathedral change color
and - as the sun goes down, the Church lights up!
Simply gorgeous.

Centro Historico de Morelia
Morelia was and still is a city with an
aristocratic air about it. The Government buildings are on the right of the
Boulevard here
with the Plaza and Cathedral on the left.
Notice the pink stones from a local
quarry. Much of the City's Center is constructed of this pink stone.
It is right here on this corner where the
group tandem
bicycles line up if you want to join in and take a bicycle tour of the
city for about $1.50USD.
FUN!

Morelia Cathedral lighting up as the
sun sets
It is worth taking the time to visit one
of the rooftop locations for a meal, a coffee or drink and watch the
changing of the lights. Nature's sun goes down and Man's Cathedral lights up.
This Cathedral dominates the whole center
of town with its presence. When the
bell tower clangs the hour it takes you
back into time, yet the busy boulevard below reminds you that you are in the
present day.

El Campanario Café Rooftop Bar and
Restaurant
Here's another rooftop Cafe above Hotel
Mision Catedral. Of course it has a lovely view of the Cathedral as well,
but a completely different vibe than Los Juaninos. It is very alive,
young with upbeat music, and one
evening when we visited, it was
just packed with people!
It made us curious and we wanted to
return for the experience.

The view from El Campanario during the
day
Morelia's Cathedral is still a huge focus
of all of these rooftop locations, but from El Campanario, we are also able to see
the clipped topiary trees in the Plaza below. The mountains of the
countryside far into the distance makes for a beautiful background as well.

Red house wine at El Campanario
What a great view!
Happy hour this night we grabbed the last
window table for the view and we weren't disappointed. House wine is a
terrific price at $2.50USD.
We decided to order some dinner, and took
a look at their menu.

One menu
This menu featured some appetizers. A
plate filled with spicy sausage, beef tenderloin strips, quesadillas,
chicken tacos and guacamole runs about $10USD. Mushrooms and shrimp in
garlic sauce is $8USD.

Another menu
Plates of either smoked trout or beef
carpaccio run just under $9USD, Foie gras is $8 Bucks, and pizzas are
$7.50USD.
The pizza selections listed are 4
cheeses, pepperoni, slow roasted pork, and cheese with pear.

Drinking our wine, waiting for our
dinners
We wanted everything on the menu!
But since we were craving greens, we
decided on two different salads. Billy ordered a Grilled Chicken Caesar
Salad, and I chose a Pear and Goat Cheese Salad.

Pear and Goat Cheese Salad
Believe it or not, this scrumptious salad
was... $3USDS!!
It had tons of candied walnuts and dried
cranberries, a delicious house dressing, a large chunk of goat cheese under
the fresh sprouts, sliced pear and all of this was presented on a bed of
fresh lettuce.
Billy's Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad was
hearty with lots of chicken and the price was only $4USD.
What. A. Deal.

The view from El Campanario in the
evening
We enjoyed our salads and wine, listened
to the buoyant music, and watched the magic outside happen.
Really something, isn't it?

Another El Campanario location
In Morelia, the place to be for a
restaurant/cafe is a rooftop.
This is another El Campanario location
with a different view of the Cathedral and garden area below.
You could take a week and simply visit
rooftop restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Sounds like a future project!

El Campanario Bar
Along with delicious house wine, El
Campanario has a full bar available as well. Service personnel and patrons
alike are friendly, and this is a place to visit when you go to Morelia.
Breakfast, lunch ad dinner are all served.
