Sip
on the Square
Charlestown, Nevis, West

Nevis has modernized
significantly since we were living on the island in 1991.
Back then, you could buy a
beer fairly easily, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a coffee shop that served
espresso, cappuccinos and pastry. Those were only available at expensive
hotels... maybe.
That's all changed now. Sip
on the Square is a good example of this culinary progress.
Welcome to the "New Nevis."

View of Sip on the
Square from the street
From Main Street you just
need to look up to find Sip.
Walk a few stairs and
Voila! A comfortable and inviting coffee shop that serves beverages and
"light bites."

Neighboring shops
In case you cannot find Sip
on the Square, it happens to be just above Buju's Place.
Buju's is a true
Charlestown favorite. Low key, but a clear standout in
the center of Main
Street.
V-Snackette (the yellow and
blue building below) is a staple of Nevisian village life. Informal, no frills,
serving up
home-cooked Caribbean meals, fresh drinks and quick "bites" like fried fish, roti, or johnnycakes.
This casual open-air
setting allows for walkers-by to come and go, say hello, exchange news and
pleasantries.
This is something I hope the
"modernization" of Nevis never lets go of.

Inviting and comfortable
Since tourism is Nevis' #1
economic drive, Sip draws from both local and international influences to cater
to diverse tastes.
They offer freshly brewed coffee,
refreshing smoothies, matcha lattes, and other creative options.
Typically, they are open for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon breaks,
though exact hours may vary.
It's island life, after all...

Some solid Caribbean advice
Seriously, this is very
typical Caribbean advice and reflects their approach to life.
If you knew what these
descendants-from-slaves have endured, to come through to today's world with
self-respect and kindness towards others is simply inspiration.
Simple, yet profound
guidance.

Sunlight shines, brightening the whole
shop
Sip on the Square is clean, welcoming, and a
place where one can read or catch up on emails.
It's clean, and customers and attendants are
friendly yet respect your privacy.

Good vibes only!
Peace and Love is an
honorable request.
If yer lookin' for trouble,
you won't find it here.

Sip's menu
For such a compact place, their menu offers
reasonable variety - from a pastry and espresso to a salad, sandwich or a yummy
smoothie.
Travelers rave about it as a highlight in Nevis's
growing food scene, which
blends African, South Asian, and colonial influences.
Pricing is in EC Dollars, the currency of
Nevis.

Bill for two
To be honest, I forget what we enjoyed here,
- probably 2 coffees and a pastry.
The bill came to $36EC, or about $13USD.
Would we recommend Sip on the Square?
Yes!!
