Playa La

Manzanillo, Mexico

About 9 kilometers from
our hotel in
Manzanillo is this beautiful, family-style beach called Playa La Boquita.
Since we wanted a calm bay
to swim in, we grabbed a taxi outside our hotel grounds and asked him to take us
there.
Normally the price would
have been 150Pesos (about $8USD), but we bargained for 100Pesos (just over $5).
Map showing our hotel on the right and
Playa La Boquita on the left
On this map you can see the location of our
hotel and the beach we wanted to visit.
The bay is large and lovely.
Lots of restaurants on the beach
Here you can see the coast line of the bay
and there are restaurants, shops and hotels from here all the way to the end!
Luckily there are no skyscrapers and the view
is easy.
Ships moored out in the sparkling bay
Here is the sparkling bay with some boats
moored.
Looking from the beach here, our hotel is
beyond those hills on the left, in
another bay.
Vendors sell beach toys and floaties
La Boquita is a family beach so there must be
sea toys available!
Donuts, alligators, sharks, beach balls,
soccer balls, buckets and sand toys are all for sale here.
Having a good smile at the beach!
Here we are, relaxing at our restaurant
table, kind of easing into our beach day.
Some friends from the States will be meeting
up with us later.
Such clear water!
Here you can see that the sea is so clear the
tiny fish a couple of feet below are in plain sight.
The
kids near us were squealing with delight and silliness.
They loved being in the sea.
Vendor selling fresh mango
As with most beach vendors in
Mexico, there are
a variety of products to purchase from them.
This man had fresh mango and we could choose
which plate we wanted.
For 50 Pesos, I chose the mangos that looked
the sweetest to me but some like the tart flavor of a mango that is younger, not
quite ripe. He had them both.
There is a bag of ground chili flakes and
some lime that is a common preparation for fresh fruit here in this country.
Personally, I like mine, plain, sweet and
natural - maybe with some lime.
Juicy, sweet mango
Yum.
We shared the mango with our friends. For
less than $3USD there was plenty of fruit for the 4 of us.
Guacamole at Eureka Restaurant
Guacamole is another very common Mexican
dish.
Fresh avocados, onions, tomatoes, lime and
sometimes garlic and eaten with chips.
DEEE-licious!
Beach vendor
This vendor sells fruit drinks over shaved
ice, ice cream bars, some chips and a few beach toys.
One would think that these guys don't make
much money, but we spoke with one of our vendor friends on
Chacala
Beach, in Nayarit, and he said he made 10,000 Pesos one Sunday. Of course,
he hustles, appears every day and is famous for his fresh coconut treats.
One menu at Eureka Restaurante
The Eureka Restaurante sells Red Snapper in
various preparations, shrimp with their casings on or peeled, octopus and
assorted cocktails.
If you are ever in Manzanillo, this beach is
well worth seeing.
We'll go back again!
