Winter time is the best for
going to the beaches here in
Mexico.
Billy was getting itchy
feet again so he planned a trip for us going up the Pacific Coast beginning in
Manzanillo, and ending up in
Puerto Vallarta.
We left Chapala at 8:45Am when
our taxi arrived at our apartment to take us to the New Bus Station. The taxi
ride cost 500Pesos, about $28USD.
Inside the bus station we
paid 630Pesos (about $17USD each) for 2 INAPAM Senior discount tickets leaving at 10:20am to Manzanillo.
Arriving in Manzanillo, we
grabbed a taxi (50Pesos) right outside the bus station to take us to our lovely
hotel, MarBella, situated right on the ocean.
We arrived about 3pm.
Map showing the location of Hotel Marbella
As you can see here, the
Marbella is right on the bay.
A painting in the lobby of the hotel
This painting in the lobby
shows you what the complete hotel looks like. It's a bit upscale with an ocean
view and a swimming pool on the bottom floor.
Two restaurants are
attached to this hotel, making meals very convenient, whether you are with a
special someone or if you bring your whole family or group of friends.
Hotel Marbella right on the beach
This is the hotel from out on
Playa Azul.
The two restaurants are on the bottom floor
to the left and the lovely swimming pool is in the center.
Playa Azul is known for its clear waters, soft sand, and
reasonably calm waves, making it a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and
water sports. It stretches out for
about two kilometers along the coast.
At the time we were there, we didn't see many
paddleboards or jet skis, but people did swim in the ocean on either side of our
hotel.
And the weather was perfect.
Clean, bright rooms
This room was just down the
hall from ours. It's very similar to the one we had, except that our room had a
straight view of the ocean!
King bed and a sea view
If you prefer a King size
bed, those are available as well.
Water was hot, beds were
firm and the room was clean.
Looking towards the pool
Our room was in this
section, just a short walk to the pool area.
Bright and sunny.
Did I mention that the
weather was perfect?
Another view from the tables towards the pool
This is another view of
basically the same area.
Our room is to the right.
You can see how pleasant this
hotel is.
View from our Room
Standing in our doorway,
this is the view from our air-conditioned room. We paid 1,050Pesos a night for
this room, nearly $58USD.
Our hotel was just about a
kilometer from a large shopping area including the grocery store, Soriana and
several restaurants. One could purchase anything you might want, or go for a
meal outside the hotel for a change of pace.
View of Playa Azul from in front of our hotel
This view gives you a good sense of the beach
and of the bay.
As you can see, it is not crowded at all.
A panoramic view of the sea from inside our hotel wall
This is a panoramic view of
the area from inside the hotel seawall.
You can see the entire
beach area and the bay right here.
Sunset view from the pool
This shot shows you the
large pool (the kiddie pool is farther beyond, behind the chairs there) and it's
nearing sunset.
Isn't it beautiful?
Morning view of the sea from the pool
Here is a morning shot,
showing you the tiled lounges in the pool and the undisturbed water.
Beach umbrellas on beyond
the hotel seawall and the glistening sea beckons.
Caesar salad with shrimp
We had meals in both
hotel restaurants depending on the time of day.
This Shrimp Caesar Salad
was a dinner in the Spanish restaurant, and it was quite tasty. Plenty of shrimp
and not inundated with croutons.
Summer salad with crusty Parmesan toast
This Summer Salad was very
satisfying and I ordered it two separate times.
However the 2nd time I
asked for a different dressing, something more distinctive. The original
dressing was sweet and the flavor of it got lost.
This is a fruit and lettuce
salad with goat cheese, walnuts and a delicious contrasting crusty Parmesan Cheese
toast.
Our bill for two
This particular meal we ate
with friends and our portion came to 410 Pesos, about $23USD before tip.
Would we recommend this
hotel and restaurant?
Absolutely!
Note: We recommend
not using a credit or debit card as their system is compromised. Better to pay
in cash.
