Our Apartment in Gaeta, Italy

Our time in Anzio was over and we were on our way to a different coastal down 53 miles further south named Gaeta.

We said goodbye to the quaint little area where we stayed the last 5 nights and walked to the train station.

Signs were not clearly marked either on the platform or on the trains themselves. There was an LED screen on the side of each train which stated the next location, but it didn't light up until the train itself left the station... which seemed counter intuitive. And it certainly wasn't helpful.

We watched the time carefully and simply boarded the train that left according to the train schedule we had seen the day before.

So, we boarded a 12:12pm train going to Campoleone and would change trains there to our destination of Gaeta.

When we arrived at Campoleone we were confused, as it was our first time using Italy's train system. At this stop nothing was marked well once again. We asked around what we were to do next, and we found  ourselves walking underground to the other side and caught the train going to Gaeta.

So far, so good!

Two hours from the start, we arrived in Gaeta at about 2:14PM.

At that point I called the people who owned the apartment and Leonardo said he'd meet us in front of the apartment, and gave us an address.

We found a taxi in the front of Gaeta's train station and he quoted us $25Euros to get from the station to the apartment. We were a little surprised at this amount which was more than we expected, but we hopped into his taxi

The taxi driver got lost, even though he knew both the address and the area.

Yikes.

We asked him to call the landlord and together they figured out where we were and where the driver was to go to drop us off.

Leonardo met us at the front of the apartment as promised and led us in. He showed us all the ins and outs of the apartment.

It had a good location, washer machine, and nice hot water. The apartment was very clean and had a very functional kitchen.

We were paying $118 Euros per night for this lovely apartment, plus a $1 Euro city tax per person per night.

Above you see the 2nd bedroom which also had a balcony and a place to hang laundry to dry.

This bedroom also had a desk and chair, something we really appreciate in our travels.

It turned out that Leonardo was born in Venezuela and lives here in Italy. He speaks Spanish, some English and of course, Italian.

He was THRILLED to find out we spoke Spanish, his first language, and actually, it turned out to be much easier to speak to him in his native tongue than it was to use Google Translate back and forth.

The shower is out of this photo, but is on the right hand side next to the washer machine.

As you can see, the place is very clean.

Here's the master bedroom that also comes with a baby crib for families.

It too, has a balcony looking out, and lots of closet space for clothing.

Kitchen in apartment Gaeta, Italy

The lovely kitchen

This kitchen had a full size refrigerator, oven, gas stove, kitchen utensils and pans, table and chairs and another door out to a balcony.

After we settled in, we went out shopping for something to eat and to build up our food collection in the fridge for the next 4 days.

Not far from our apartment was a fruit and vegetable store which was great.

Pricing was decent. For example, we bought a pear, 2 bananas and a bottle of chianti all for $4 Euros.

We found during our stay in Italy that most locations came with an espresso machine and coffee pods as well as a bottle of olive oil!

We were looking forward to our stay here in Gaeta and couldn't wait to get out and about to take a look.

Would we recommend this apartment in Gaeta?

Absolutely!
