Currency Exchange
Our days in Cuernavaca
were limited but we wanted to make the most of them.
Walking around this one
Sunday, we stumbled upon this local corner restaurant. From past experience,
we have found that these funky-yet-popular restaurants serve the best
tasting food! So
in we went.

Restaurant Iguanas Greens, a place
with Historical Flavor!
On the outside of the building is painted
above the door: "A Place of Historical Flavor!"
That was intriguing.
There are menus with prices stacked
against the wall and the options looked not only affordable, but tasty!

Colorful indoors
Walking inside we saw the
funky-yet-festive interior. Chairs painted bright and color-full, with
strange art on the walls. Not to mention the beloved graffiti.
Places like these can be a put-off to
many Gringo tourists. They might prefer a more modern, stylish and familiar
restaurant like Holiday Inn or McDonalds for their food. But these are
exactly the sort of restaurants we prefer!
We know the "secret."
The locals have patronized this place for
years... and they wouldn't do that unless the food was delicious and
dependable.

Green Iguanas
Oh yes. The iguanas.
There's gotta be a story here... Someone
loves iguanas or they are a good luck charm or... Who knows?
But whatever the back story, iguanas were
important enough to someone in order to name a restaurant after them.

Open area kitchen
The place really wasn't that big - more
"cozy" than anything.
The kitchen was at the end of the
building and was open air.
Notice the decorative Talavera tile on
the counters.

Reading the menu
When we arrived at Iguana Greens
Restaurant, there was only one other table occupied at the time. Within 10
minutes the Church let out and all the Church going families crowded into
the restaurant!
It was packed and busy!
Apparently, graffiti on the walls is
encouraged, because it was everywhere.
This is kind of a family-local hangout
and is very popular.

Papaya on a plate with toasted oatmeal
There was a lot to choose from on the
menu, but we all ordered a breakfast combo plate.
The combo plate came with juice or fruit,
coffee or tea, your entree, black beans and tortillas.
The price? 43Pesos which is about $2USD.

Black beans, scrambled eggs with fresh
spinach
Billy got scrambled eggs with fresh
spinach. This was not a small portion!

Black beans, scrambled eggs with fresh
nopales
Nopales are very common and traditional
in Mexico and they are quite nutritious. Nopales have many vital
phytochemicals, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can
immensely benefit health.
Yummy.

Huevos Rancheros
Another classic favorite in Mexico is
Huevos Rancheros. Eggs are placed on tortillas (sometimes corn and sometimes
wheat) and smothered in salsa. It's always a good choice.

Our bill
Here is our bill and you can see at the
top that we had 3 breakfasts for 43Pesos each.
Right after breakfast, the waiters came
by with a dessert tray and boy these looked delicious!
We had plenty of food for the morning, so
dessert didn't interest us at the time. But perhaps if we visited for a
coffee in the afternoon, any of those desserts would have been a good bet.
We definitely recommend this restaurant
if ever you are in Cuernavaca.
