Hotel
Posada de la Salud
Patzcuaro, Michoacan,
Mexico

I
had done my research for rooms in Patzcuaro while we were visiting the
gorgeous
Colonial City of Morelia.
Satisfied with my
choices, I found a room in a hotel that was considered to be
the
number one value of the town. However, initially, we were disappointed.
So the next morning after breakfast, we
decided to check out what was rated as the second-best value in
Patzcuaro.

The entrance to Hotel Posada de la
Salud It was
a little bit of a walk from the center of town where we were staying and we
noticed right away how much quieter it was in this area.
Located next to the Basilica de Salud and
up the road, it was easy to overlook.
But after finding it, we walked through the open door...

Bright, sunny, garden patio
A smiling older gentleman greeted us and
welcomed us into the hotel. We asked about the price and if we could see a
room.
"We're thinking of moving from our hotel
to another one," we said. He murmured knowingly and nodded his head.
Asking about the price of his rooms, he
said that they could be had for 400 to 450Pesos nightly (about $22-$25USD),
depending on the room. So the pricing was very similar to what we were
already paying.
Another garden area
Well, compared to what we had for a room,
and the hectic surroundings, I was immediately enchanted with what seemed to
be a garden oasis.
Rooms were twice as
large and had two beds instead of one. WiFi was available in the community
areas. There were
no stairs, the place seemed clean and the beds were firm.
For me, there was no decision.

One of the bedrooms
The place seemed modern, light-filled,
had a small desk and a garden area to dream into. And it was practically the
same price as what we were spending now.
What more could we ask for?
I was sold.
But Billy? Not so.
"I like the action of where we are," he
said. "The market is right there. Street food is everywhere. There's a park
across from our hotel and this place seems a bit out-of-the-way. Nothing
is going on here."
(I'm thinking: "Exactly. Isn't it
GREAT?! Peace and quiet. I can hear the grass grow!")
But he had a point. Everything he said
was true.
We were only going to be in Patz for a
couple of days, and he wanted to see action, movement, life force, energy,
liveliness, color, the smells of the market and food stalls.
This lovely posada was like a retreat.
Two different ways to experience the same
city.

The entrance way into the posada
I was a little disappointed, as I would
have moved here that very afternoon. It hadn't even occurred to me, the
differences in our perspective.
That Billy. He's always surprising me.
So I said, "Ok, we'll stay where we are,
but if we ever come back, I'm making reservations here."
"Deal."
So he skipped out of the hotel, while I
dragged my bee-hind a bit, stealing a glance over my shoulder at what I
thought was a little paradise in Patzcuaro.
