Considered one of the best
restaurants on
St. Maarten, the Ocean Lounge is an open air restaurant with
views of Great Bay Beach.
It's connected to the
Holland House, which was one of the first hotels built on this island.
The restaurant offers a
fusion of European and Caribbean flavors.

As mentioned before,
Port St. Maarten in
Philipsburg, is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean. You can sit
here on the terrace eating your meal and watch the cruise ships come and go.
It's sophisticated yet relaxed, and is a
favorite for Dutch celebrities, Ministers and international tourists.

Here we are, two international tourists
ourselves, waiting for our delicious lunch to be served.
In the "olden days,"
Philipsburg was a quaint little village where everybody knew your name.
Today, it's still charming
and the friendly locals make an effort to have conversation with you.
More than 120 years ago the
governor at the time was housed on the location where this hotel and restaurant
now stand.
Menu
On the menu above, under
appetizers, you will Chicken and Waffles listed.
This is considered to be
African American cuisine and soul food, with cultural celebration of this dish
in the South and beyond.
There is another story
surrounding the dish Chicken and Waffles. Blues musicians would play until the
wee hours of the morning in the bars. When their shift was over, they'd go to a
restaurant wanting something like dinner, but also maybe like breakfast.
Since they were between
meal periods, they favored the salty, crispy, savory flavor of the chicken in
contrast to the fluffy, sweet flavor of the waffles.

The Chicken and Waffles
combo was invented.

Billy ordered the Mahi-mahi
sandwich which came with French fries and Cole slaw.
The Holland House Hotel
opened in 1978, but there are no specific records of when the Ocean Lounge
opened its doors.
Mostly likely it happened
at the same time, because from the beginning, it was popular for dignitaries,
business professionals and travelers.
The Ocean Lounge has a
prime location, just steps from Great Bay Beach and a two-minute walk from the
Great Bay Cruise Harbor.
Smoked salmon on avocado toast
I chose the smoked salmon on avocado toast
and it was just wonderful.
You can see fresh watercress sprouts on top,
plus capers.
It all made for a nice combination.
Our bill for 2 people
Our bill came to
$63.80USD, and they were giving the Euro a one-to-one exchange with the Dollar.
In Antillean Guilders the bill came to $113.93.
A 10% service charge was
added.
The Ocean Lounge is open
daily from 10:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.
MENU has - Seafood,
Lobsters, Pasta, Steaks, Euro Caribbean & International cuisine, and serves
breakfast, lunch, dinner, and craft cocktails.
It also hosts live music and
events, such as weekly Friday DJ sets.
