Sunset Hotel
on St. Barth

We arrived at Port Gustavia
from Sint Maarten via the
Great
Bay Express ferry in 45 minutes.
The crew member had been right
in saying the ferry ride between
islands was very rough – and it was rougher than Billy or I had anticipated.
But we paid the reasonable
price of $230USD for two round-trip-tickets (Sint Maarten - St. Barth - Sint
Maarten) and now we were on a new (for us) island destination.
We couldn't wait to scope
it out.

Business card for Sunset Hotel
We arrived, waited in line to get
our passports stamped into St. Barth. Then we walked out the door, took a left
out of the port, then another left to walk to the Sunset Hotel.
The heat
was incredible, and honestly, it took its toll on me, even for this very short
walk. I was still
recovering from my radiation treatments, and my normal high energy had not
yet returned.
Billy did much better than
I and he led the way.

The front of Sunset Hotel
We were accepted into the
hotel and shown our room on the 3rd floor. We have a very nice area to have
breakfast or happy hour and our room – though we have no sea view - is very
nice.
We are paying $442USD for
our 3-night stay - a notable bargain for St. Barth.

View of the harbor
We are able to enjoy this shared terrace with panoramic
views of the harbor.
It's perfect for watching sunsets and any
boating events that might be happening at the time.
If you are here during the Bucket Regatta or
New Year's Eve Regatta, you have a prime seat!
A
basic breakfast (pastries, coffee/tea) is available from the kitchen to the
right for about $12USD.

Our hotel room
Our hotel room, with its "excellent
price-to-value ratio" has a large sleeping area with a refrigerator, TV, working
table and a huge bathroom.
It's much better than I anticipated for the
price we were paying, and we have a teeny window with a harbor view to the left
of the bathroom sink.
We got settled and then went out to get some
food or to do some grocery shopping.

Harbor view
This is the entrance of Gustavia’s
harbor, and it's directly across from the ferry terminal connecting St. Martin and St. Barth.
The airport isn't far, and with its central position
we have
easy access to restaurants, boutiques, and Shell Beach, which is a
short walk away.
We are planning to visit Shell Beach and have
a relaxing lunch there and a beach day tomorrow.

Billy and Akaisha on the veranda at sunset
Here we are, enjoying our sunset over the
harbor.

Rue de la République, one of Gustavia’s
main streets running along the harbor.
From the shared veranda, we have a super view
of Rue de la République. It's a central road in Gustavia, and it runs parallel to the harbor’s waterfront
as you can see here.
This area bustles with yachts, ferries
connecting to St. Martin, and maritime activity.
Rue de la République reflects Gustavia’s
Swedish colonial past (1784–1878), as many street names and architectural
features were established during this period.

Boats and yachts in the harbor
Here's a daytime look at the harbor.
Many sail boats are docked here as it is a
famous port for yachtys.

A classic sunset
Here's the same view but at a brilliant
sunset.
We are having a beer on the veranda at this
time, watching Mother Nature paint the sky.

Business card info
If you want to hobnob with the wealthy and
pretend you are too, be sure you book your room at Sunset Hotel.
It's a bargain, the location is prime, and
you will have a spectacular view of the harbor.
