Paris, France

Tea salons are common in Paris, and the
concept can be traced back to the 18th century when tea was introduced as a
luxury item among the aristocracy.
Over time, these salons
became social hubs where literature, art, and politics were discussed over tea,
much like the literary salons of the Enlightenment.
Cozy and casual, this traditional Traiteur
Salon de The provides a calm retreat from the bustling city life, making them
ideal for relaxation, reading, or intimate conversations.

The front of Traiteur Salon de The
Historically, in France,
traiteurs were professionals in the culinary field, often associated with the
preparation and sale of sophisticated meals. They were the precursors to modern
restaurants.
These places generally
offer catering services for events like weddings, corporate meetings, and
private parties in the Latin Quarter.
Inside, you can enjoy tea alongside more substantial food offerings than just pastries.

Showcasing various
delectables
There is a lot to choose
from here, as you can see from the display cases.
You can expect a selection of teas, possibly including some unique
or rare blends, alongside French classics like macarons, éclairs, or tarte Tatin.
This Salon de The serves breakfast, brunch, and dessert. They also have
outdoor seating and a wheelchair accessible entrance.

Hot dogs in a baguette, and Croque
Monsieur
Croque Monsier is a popular traditional
French sandwich with lightly toasted bread, ham and Gruyère cheese.
Other cheeses like Emmental or Swiss can be
used also.
The cheese is both inside the sandwich and on
top. Béchamel sauce, which is a white sauce made from butter, flour, and milk,
sometimes with added nutmeg or cheese for flavor.
The final touch often includes an additional
sprinkle of grated cheese on top of the béchamel before broiling, which melts
and browns to add an extra layer of flavor and texture.

Delicious pastries on display
In this showcase you see small raspberry
tarts filled with a layer of pastry cream and dusted with powdered sugar.
To the right of these are custard tarts with
a caramelized sugar topping that gives them a crunchy texture.
Then you have these rich chocolate cakes,
with different layers and decorations.
There are round almond cakes to the left of
the raspberry tarts. They have a golden brown top and slivered almonds.
Chocolate tarts are to the left.

French pastries are world renowned
Starting on the left with Coconut macaroons
dipped in chocolate, then Baba au Rhum - small yeast cakes soaked in rum syrup
and topped with a candied cherry.
Then there are shortbread cookies called
Gâteau Breton.
Next are individual servings of the classic
Italian dessert called Tiramisu, with layers of ladyfingers, mascarpone cream,
and cocoa powder.
Lastly, rich chocolate cakes with different
layers and decorations.

Raisin cake and cappuccino
With all these choices we decided on a raisin
cake to share with our cappuccinos.
We were able to enjoy our view outside the
window of the historical area of the Latin Quarter.

Two men having a friendly chat
The man in the beret is sitting in front of
an etched rendering of the Notre Dame on a mirror.
Tea salons are quaint and friendly places
good for relaxing and picking up a conversation.
Visiting one of these salons in Paris is not
just about drinking tea; it's an immersion into a part of French culture that
values the art of conversation, the appreciation of flavor, and the enjoyment of
life's quieter moments.
Take a walk around the city and you will find
a variety of these places to pop into for a break from your routine.
