Billy and I were wandering around in the
Latin
Quarter of Paris one windy day, when we stumbled upon this award-winning
bakery.
The young and ambitious
owner, Mickael Reydellet, was born in Normandy, where dairy products are known
for their quality. At the age of 22, he became manager of his first bakery, and
three years later, he created La Parisienne.
This bakery won the prestigious award of Prix de la Meilleure Baguette Tradition de Paris
in 2016. Let's take a
look.

Entrance and outdoor seating
The outside is sleek, classic and
unpretentious.
While there is no indoor seating, there are
plenty of chairs and several tables on the sidewalk where you can enjoy your
cafe, pastry or baguette sandwich.
This bakery also gets high marks for quick
and friendly service, even when there are people waiting in line.

Apple tart
This is a classic French apple tart, known as "Tarte
aux Pommes" in French.
With a shortcrust pastry
base, thinly sliced apples are arranged in a decorative pattern on top, and a
simple syrup drizzled to give it that shiny finish.
Underneath is either a layer of apple sauce
or almond paste.
The texture contrasts between the crisp
pastry and the soft, caramelized apples and has become a favorite of the French
everywhere.
French culinary
tradition is combining simplicity with elegance.

Eclairs, St. Honoré cake, chocolate cream
tart
The French are famous for their many
combinations for pastry-building.
In this photo you have Eclairs filled with
cream and topped with icing, a St. Honore cake, a kind of cream puff, and a
chocolate tart.
Chocolate is always a popular choice
in Paris.
These pastries are not just food; they are an art form.

Opera cakes, Paris-Brest, Tartlets and
Eclairs
On the left is an Opera Cake which is a
layering of cake of almond sponge cake, coffee syrup, ganache, and coffee buttercream.
The top has a dusting of chocolate.
The center pastry is called Paris-Brest
created in 1910 to commemorate the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race, symbolizing
the wheel of a bicycle. Traditionally filled with praline cream and often topped
with almonds or hazelnuts. This one might have had some matcha or pistachio
added, giving it the green color.
Then there are some cream tartlets and
Eclairs.
How can you go past one of these and not buy
it?

Baguette sandwiches
The Parisienne offered baguette sandwiches as
well.
The French are world renowned for their style
of bread called baguettes.
This one is filled with cooked peppers,
sliced cheese and Arugula. The Arugula gives it a peppery bite.
This is a classic French
sandwich.
At the very bottom on the
left you can see a bit of Viking Bread peaking out. This dark multi-grain loaf
has seeds and is both flavorful and chewy.
