Retirement; like your parents, but way cooler
In 1991 Billy and Akaisha Kaderli retired at the age

financially independent lifestyle, they invite you
to take advantage of their wisdom and experience. |

We had just finished our tour of the
Arc de Triomphe
on this blustery autumn day, and took a stroll down the Champs-Elysees looking
for someplace warm to get in out of the weather. We found this cheery bistro
not far from the Arc, in fact you can see this monument from our inside table.
Woman begging on the Champs-Elysees
We slipped into the bright
bistro and took a seat right at the front.
Both the front and the side
of this simple cafe had large plate glass windows in order to people watch and
gaze the Monument de Etoile that you can see here just up the street.
Drizzly, cold and gusty, I
was surprised to see this young woman sitting on the pavement without a cushion
or cloth. We were at the cafe nearly an hour and she barely moved her position,
nor did she speak.
I can only imagine the cold
coming up from the concrete below her body. She seemed neither impatient nor
agitated and I never saw her engage with anyone as she waited for donations.
I wondered what her story
was.
A waiter and a military guard
Again, this was the view from our table.
The building right next door to us was a bank
or investment house, and there were several guards taking turns protecting the
front entrance.
This young man saw that I was watching him
with mild curiosity, and he purposefully stepped out of my view.
Also in this photo you see a waiter and a
friend having a conversation.
Daily life on a Paris street.
Akaisha and Billy in the Bistro
Here you see us at our table with our
$7.50Euro cappuccinos getting toasty
after being buffeted by the rain and wind outside.
Right next to us were two men having lunch
together. They were probably in their early 40's and were discussing finances
and investments in a competitive manner. One was convinced on putting his money
into Rolex watches and trading them "on the market" as the pricing shifted. He
was a bit distressed that his wife wouldn't wear hers, and that his father had
put his watch into a bank safety deposit box. He had 4 or 5 of his own, (plus
those he had in a reserved investment) and wore different ones every day.
His companion was more interested in real
estate and neither one cared a whit that we were sitting so close as to hear
their total conversation.
They had several courses and a couple of
bottles of wine plus espresso.
Over the time we sat there, Billy introduced
himself and the discussion turned to
FIRE.
Neither of them considered changing their
lifestyles in any way.
They were passionate about consuming,
purchasing, and providing well for their families with several properties
scattered around Europe. What would they do with their time if they were to
"retire" or become financially independent? What would their spouses and
children think?
"No, no," they said as they tore into their
next course. "We want property, we want food, we want watches."
Banana crepes
Our $7.50Euro banana crepes were delivered quickly and
we enjoyed this treat along with our cappuccinos.
Strawberry preserve syrup, real whipped
cream, fresh bananas, powdered sugar and the lightweight egg-flour pancake
called crepes in France.
Delicious!
Would we recommend you to go to Bistro de
Champs?
Sure!
