Currency Exchange
As you know, my French-Chef
husband, Billy, and I are foodies from way back.
When we get to a new place
we often scout out restaurants for fine food and an unusual twist with flavors.
Holbox
Island isn't that big, but it has lots of restaurants from which to choose.
Happily - since this is an international tourist destination - much of that food
is excellent.
This night we decided to go
to Casa Nostra Rooftop Restaurant, a bit of a walk from
our
hotel.
Map showing location of
Casa Nostra Roof Restaurant
It had been raining in the
evenings or late afternoons, and our walk to Casa Nostra was a bit
"adventurous." Not because we were rained upon, but because of the usual
makeup of the sand on this island.
Mixed with clay, the
rainwater doesn't sink into the earth after rains, but rather gathers in LARGE
pools in the
middle of the sand roads. If there are any dips in the road from
vehicles, those large pools can be much more than ankle deep.
Sidewalks are often a foot
high from the road itself, so that one is able to avoid these lake-like puddles.
Still, at street corners, one steps into the clay-sludge wondering if our
footing will hold.
The above map shows the
location of Casa Nostra. Our hotel is to the right of the green square, out of
the photo.
The bar at Casa Nostra
We arrived at the restaurant, which was
upstairs.
Reviews were good, and this open air dining
room looked promising.
This is a photo of the bar.
Indoor-outdoor dining room
Due to the iffy climate, the plastic sheets
protecting diners from possible rain were still in place.
We chose the table to the right of this pole.
After we sat down and looked at the menu, the
restaurant started to fill up.
Peering into the kitchen from dining room
Not a large place, there were less than a
dozen tables plus bar stools on the outside.
Here you can see into the kitchen from this
viewpoint.
The restaurant was a classic, understated
design.
Macrame suncatcher
The restaurant serves Italian cuisine.
The mentioned bar stools are to the right
here, outside the photo.
A simple Macrame suncatcher hangs down from
the palapa roof.
Out into the street, a row of bicycles
Here is a look from out of the restaurant
into the sand streets below. Fortunately, there were no puddles here.
Rented bicycles are commonplace on the
island.
Fresh bread with herbed tomatoes and olive
oil
After we ordered, it wasn't long until this
fresh bread and fresh tomato-and-herb condiment arrived.
Really delicious.
Seafood Salad
We shared this seafood salad which was
outstanding.
Fresh, fresh shrimp, octopus,
whitefish and bits of lobster along with red onion, lettuce, black olives, lime
and some crushed nut sprinkled on top.
The salad had a delicious dressing and this
was a good choice.
Grilled Lamb chops
These Lamb chops were cooked to perfection
and were tender and juicy.
With all the grilled vegetables and the
previous seafood salad, there was plenty of food for the two of us.
Highly recommended!
Our bill for 2 people
Our bill came to 840Pesos, about $42USD
before tip.
It was a memorable meal with delectable
flavors.
Would we return?
Absolutely!
