Currency Exchange
Being an international
tourist destination, it makes sense that
Isla Holbox
would have high quality food offered in their restaurants.
Our first meal here at
Amaite Restaurant was remarkably good and we decided right then to come back
again.
We ate several times at
this location, and each time was notable.
Take a look below.

Menu at Amaite
Located
right on the beach and a stone's throw from our hotel, this was a beautiful
location to hang out or have a meal.

The view at Amaite
With a sea view and this lovely little wharf, one could people watch while
having a meal or catching up on the news.
They had gourmet coffee drinks, smoothies,
umbrella drinks, beer and happy hour.

A listing of entree choices
Here's a sample of meals that are offered,
and if you look closely, you'll see some attractive ingredients.
Blackberry sauce for the duck, yellow curry
emulsion for the sea scallops, hibiscus reduction in Xcatik chili for the catch
of the day... it certainly piqued our interest!

A heartier menu
If items from the grill is your preference,
here you can have various beef cuts, chicken, salmon, tuna or lobster.

Fish filet in Yerba Santa
This fresh Grouper was wrapped in Yerba
Santa, placed on a bed of potato puree with fried chips of plantain and radish.
A beautiful display and delicious flavors.

The sign for Amaite Hotel, Bar, Restaurant
We didn't get inside to visit the hotel, but
we enjoyed the meals, the drinks, the view and the
live minstrels who came to play.

Picana with grilled vegetables
This was a 400gram Picana cut of beef
(sirloin tip) that we shared. It came with these roasted vegetables inside a
circle of grilled red onion.
A splash of sea salt is on the plate.
The meat was tender, and the extra side
potato with freshly made Mexican sour cream was delicious.

Scallops with truffle sauce
This sea scallop dish was simply amazing!
I could easily have scarfed it down but I
physically made myself take my time, savoring every bite.
The combination of the truffle sauce with the
xcatic chili was mind-blowing.
The scallops were perfectly tender and juicy.

Pasta Bolognese
This simple dish with fresh grated Parmesan
cheese and tomato was very satisfying.
The tomato sauce was made by hand.

Separate private seating area
This restaurant offers seats in various
locations, and if you have a small party who wants to drink or chat together,
then this would be the section in which to meet!
With a Buddha head in the background and soft
lighting through rattan lamps, it's a beautifully sophisticated spot!

Our bill with tip included
This is our bill for two for the Picana
steak, another side potato with Mexican style sour cream and a couple of beers.
At 959Pesos, it's about $48USD.
Would we return?
Absolutely!
