We were on our way to a new
destination -
Ensenada, Baja California!
Visions of
beaches,
wineries and
abundant seafood filled our heads, but first we had to get there.
In Chapala, we got up at 4am in order
to catch our taxi at 6am. Our plane to Tijuana from Guadalajara was leaving at 8am.
This gave us plenty of time
and we were all set and ready to go.
Taxi from our home in
Chapala to the airport in Guadalajara was 450Pesos, about $23USD.
Air tickets round trip from
Guadalajara to Tijuana on Volaris Airlines were $126USD each.

Map showing our bus route to Ensenada
Upon arriving in Tijuana, we walked out of
the airport and down the street about 10 minutes until we found the bus station.
With our INAPAM cards, our tickets came to
195.50 Pesos or less than $10USD each.
As you can see from our route above, the trip
takes less than 2 hours.

Our bus tickets
On the left hand side of our tickets you can
read the "descuento" for INAPAM (given to older residents of Mexico) and the
price is clearly marked on the left side of the ticket.
The INAPAM discount is a wonderful thing
given to pensionados. We get 50% off on bus travel, discounts on museum
and event entries, and miscellaneous other discounts like
taking a
teleferico up a mountain.

Inside comfortable bus
The buses in Mexico are quite nice. There is
air conditioning, reclining seats and your own entertainment system.
All of this makes for a comfortable ride.

Coastal route to Ensenada
This is one of the many views we had looking
out our window seats.
The great expanse you see here is the Pacific
Ocean.

Looks like the California coast
We have been up and down the
Mexico's
Pacific Coast and we are always taken by how much this coastline looks like
California.
We lived on the
Coast
of California for almost 2 decades so we are familiar with that area as
well.

Bus terminal in Ensenada
It wasn't a long trip, but when we arrived in
Ensenada, we were hungry!
Since we were taking the bus back to the
airport on our return trip, a few days before we left we came back here and
purchased tickets for the following day. This guaranteed us a seat on the early
bus.

Akaisha waiting for breakfast
Across the street from the bus station were
several restaurants. Some were seafood restaurants which offered tasty fare, but
we were looking specifically for breakfast.
This little place (I mean little!) had 3
tables and a counter.
We ordered our meal and it promptly arrived.

Our breakfast
This was scrambled eggs with ham and cheese.
It came with refried beans and some crumbled day cheese on top.
I have to tell you, this really hit the spot
and was a large portion.
The breakfast also came with some agua
fresca (some fresh blended fruit mixed with water) and the total was
about $5USD each.
Delicious!
