After
the Tickets Were Already Bought

Chiang Mai, Years Ago
We’ve never met, and yet
neither of us has doubts about love, trust, finances, or our future. It feels as
if we’ve known each other before.
I know how this may look—me
writing about love so soon after Akaisha’s passing. I want to be clear: I bought
tickets to Chiang Mai, Thailand, weeks before I knew anything about this woman.
That is how this relationship began. Things fell into place quickly. We both
tried to slow it down. We still fell in love, while telling each other we really
should meet first.
Now I’m not sure that even
matters. Ha ha.
Are there doubts and
concerns? Of course. But we both believe we can work through whatever comes. And
we both want to.
Honestly, it is pretty
amazing.
YaYa feels a bond with
Akaisha. That bond does not stand between my love for YaYa and my love for
Akaisha. YaYa tells me she loves Akaisha too.
She knows I am bringing some
of Akaisha’s ashes to Chiang Mai. She has been respectful of that from the start
and wants to be with me for the small ceremony.
She honors Akaisha. More than
once she has asked whether I would accept her taking on the care and partnership
Akaisha once gave me as my wife. Yes. I accept that with gratitude.
I don’t know where this is
going, or where it ends. I haven’t got a clue. But the emptiness that settled in
my heart is beginning to fill again.

support I could ask for. Your words are something I will cherish.
