How to
Maintain your Pool
Kristen Applegarten
One of the best things about the summer is
being able to
spend time outdoors, and whether you are just doing up the
backyard now or you’re adding in a pool for next year, maintaining it has to be
a priority for you. Your education on pool maintenance won’t happen overnight
but once you have the routine down, you’ll be able to stay on top of it all
summer.
Keeping your pool safe is one thing but
it’s not just about the fencing around the edge. You need the best
pool cleaning
service available to help you to keep the chemicals balanced, the pH of the pool
in check and the entirety of the pool sanitized. The good news is that you don't
have to worry about your pool being in the negative with chemicals or unsafe for
the kids. With the right tips outlined below, you can ensure pool safety is the
new priority for your sunshine months. Let’s take a look:

1. Skim every single day. You shouldn't skip a skim if
you can avoid it. Every day, leaves and other debris can and will be blowing
into your pool and hovering on the surface. The best way to minimize this is to
check the pool daily and remove any of that debris with a pool net. You don't
have to swim through the pool yourself to capture everything; you just have to
be able to reach! Choose a skimming net with an extendable stick and you’ll be
ahead of the game.
2. Keep some water balance
strips. You need to test the
water balance of the pool especially if it’s used every day. You want to make
sure that organic contaminants aren't throwing off the balance of your pool.
Bathers and the environment can cause issues but if you keep a pool testing kit
on hand to save time, you’ll be able to check whether your water is where it
should be. If you want to save a little more time, take a pool water sample to
your local pool shop. They’ll analyze it and let you know whether the chemistry
is out of whack.
3. Empty the pump basket. If you don't
empty your pool
of debris regularly, you’re going to find a huge build up in the pump basket,
which can cause blockages. You want to empty the baskets and hose them down to
avoid them getting slimy and packed with dirt. If you notice any cracks, replace
the damaged baskets and prevent any debris from damaging the filtration system.
4. Don't forget the filter. It’s an easy one to forget,
but you should try to remember to clear out your filters properly. Your pump is
going to run up to ten hours per day in the summer and if you have had a pool
party or a big storm, it could run for even longer. Remember, you should be
using your filter cleaner chemicals to remove any oil or grease build ups.
Your pool will be the pinnacle of your
summer - but only if it’s clean!
