Just a short
flete taxi ride from Panajachel is the
town of San Antonio de Polopo. Authentically indigenous and less built up than
Pana, it is a peaceful place to visit, and maybe take a lunch at Hotel Nuestro
Sueno. Owned by Richard and Sonia Edwards, it's worth a stop on your trip around
the lake.
View of Lake Atitlan from Hotel Nuestro
Sueno
Hotel Nuestro Sueno
offers an indoor pool, a gym and a popular restaurant. Rooms have spectacular
views of the lake and nearby volcanoes.
Cessi's Restaurant
Cessi's Restaurant will cater to your every
culinary need whether or not it is a private dinner or for a banquet. Portions
are large and feature imported meats and fish and local fresh vegetables and
fruits. If you would like, breakfast can be served in the privacy of your suite.
There is an in-house bakery as well.
Shrimp quesadillas with
salsa
On our visit to San
Antonio, we stopped by Cessi's Restaurant for lunch and ordered our meal which
was really tasty. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and it's really
peaceful to sit and watch life happening out on the lake.

fresh vegetables
Lunch comes with fresh tortillas or bread.
The above entry ran 85 Quetzales or just over $10USD. There was so much food, we
split both meals and had plenty!
The Queen's Suite
We decided to take a look
at their facilities and rooms, and Sonia gave us a complete tour.
This is the Queen's Suite
and it's a large room with windows running along on two sides. It has two
balconies with room for hammocks, large inside and outside sitting areas, a nice
fireplace, an ample bathroom, and views to the north and west that give you the
full vista of the three Lake Atitlan Volcanoes as well as about half of the
villages around the lake shore.

WiFi access is available at Nuestro Sueno. Each room has charming rustic décor
and a seating area with a fireplace and cable TV. The private bathrooms come
with a bath or shower and bathrobes. Some rooms also have a hot tub.
Depending on the size of the room and whether or not it is high season, rooms
run from 400 Quetzales ($50USD) to 1400 Quetzales ( $175 USD) per night.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room.
The front of Hotel Nuestro Sueno
Also available on property is a Steam Room, a
Dry Sauna, a Sports Bar, and a Jacuzzi. Kayaks are available for use on the
lake. Tuk tuk transport is for your convenience, and if you need urgent medical
attention, they will assist you in this area. Hotel Nuestro Sueno also has lake
transport and the availability of excursions up to 15 days.
You might want to visit Local Ceramic Artists
or have dinner with Ken Edwards, a famous potter who lives in the town. Want a
yoga class? or attend a Mayan Ceremony? Perhaps paragliding, zip-lining or
horseback riding are more your style. Just let the front desk know and they will
make arrangements for you.

The next time you are at Lake Atitlan, make a
trip to San Antonio Palopo and stop at Hotel Nuestro Sueno to have a beer or fruit
smoothie.
