Ta'Cool Taco Shop
Antigua, Guatemala
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
On our most recent visit to
Antigua,
we were able to attend a series of
free jazz
concerts just down the street from
our hotel.
Across the street from the
concerts, on East 4th Street is a new Taco Shop, called Ta'Cool.
Ta'Cool Taco Shop
Restaurants come and go, and it's
not an easy business in which to be successful. But this place holds
promise.
Open air flat top grill
The Ta'Cool Shop seats
almost 20 people downstairs on two separate counters, one open and facing the
street. From here it's easy to people watch as tourists, locals and traffic all
go by.
The kitchen is small and
unobstructed to the customer's view.
Notice the advertisement
for Chalupas in the center of the photo.
They look delicious!
Ta'Cool menu printed on
a board
A simple, but tasty menu of
offerings. Flour tortilla rolls filled with melted cheese, fried flour tortillas
filled with melted cheese and ham, and tacos, chalupas and
gringas, whose base is a tortilla, melted cheese and then you choose a meat
from the selection below.
Chorizo is a Mexican
style sausage, pastor is a spit-grilled meat, pollo pibil is
chicken in a red chili sauce, lomito is a tenderloin and puyaso is
the cap muscle from the top sirloin.
4 tacos on a board
These tacos are
pulled pork and come with the side dishes of onion, lime, parsley, and fresh
tomato salsa. Behind the taco serving board are a choice of 3 sauces; avocado,
chipotle and a chili criolo.
Heavenly!
A young Ta'Cool waitress
Wait staff were young, fresh, and cheerful.
Our orders were taken quickly and delivered with humor and a smile. Notice the
updated digital ordering screen behind this young woman.
Background music in Ta'Cool
was upbeat and Latin style.
A set of puyaso tacos
Here you see a close up of 4 puyaso
beef tacos all fully dressed with raw onions, parsley and tomato salsa.
Scrumptious!
Our bill
2 orders of puyaso tacos at 44Q each,
almost $6USD, and 2 cold Jamaica tea drinks, about $1.60USD each.
Tip is included. Total is approximately
$16USD.
Next time you go to Antigua, make a stop at
Ta'Cool's Taco Shop. You won't be disappointed.

independence, values their time, and who doesn’t
want to mindlessly follow the crowd.
