In 1991 Billy and Akaisha Kaderli retired at the age of 38. Now, into their 4th decade of this financially independent lifestyle, they invite you to take advantage of their wisdom and experience.

Randy's Grill

Antigua, Guatemala

What's so fun about visiting Antigua on a regular basis is visiting the new restaurants opening up. It's a difficult business in which to be successful, but it seems to be an enterprise that many people dream about.

"I'll just open this little place and we'll hit pay dirt!"

If you have a unique angle to serving food, it helps. To keep people coming in the door, it takes consistency in food preparation, quickness in delivery, good service and of course the food must be tasty.

We have seen this location change hands as several restaurant owners have tried to make a go of it. Randy's idea of an international sausage grill was appealing, so we thought to give it a try.

As you can see, you have your choice of Randy's home made sausage with recipes from Poland, Guatemala, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Argentina. It just sounded too good to pass up.

Randy's only seats about 10 people at a time, so it's very cozy. In fact, one can speak to the French cook as he prepares your order.

The Menu

Sausage choices, along with the included condiments, are listed here on the menu. There were also several beers from which to choose as well as soft drinks and purified bottled water.

The Spicy Italian

The Spicy Italian

This choice of spicy Italian sausage came with grilled onions and red bell peppers served on a grilled bun. Of course one could ask for hot sauce, ketchup or mustard if you wanted.

The price is 30Quetzales or about $4USD.

Both grilled and raw onions go on this baby along with enough mustard to set the flavor off.

It's not often that we see a lamb burger as a menu choice, and it called us back the next day. We just had to try it out.

This was a large meal. The tasty lamb burger was big enough on its own, but with the massive amounts of grilled baby potatoes, one would not go hungry.

For 50Q (about $7USD) we were stuffed!

Randy himself, who joined us for a beer while we ate our lamb burgers, told us about his dream restaurant. He's a rancher by trade and learned to make sausage and has perfected his skill.

You can purchase sausage by the pound by placing an order on his Facebook page, and you can follow the specials of the week. Last I checked his weekly special was pasta with spicy Italian sausage and red sauce.

Yum!
