Guanajuato, Mexico is an international Colonial city which offers many attractions to tourists including museums, a music scene, theater and outstanding cuisine.

We went to Guanajuato specifically for the rooftop bars and restaurants. Due to the Covid restrictions of the past year, several of these rooftop restaurants had shut down.

On this particular day, we spent over an hour on a hot morning looking for an intriguing French/Mexican restaurant, but were disappointed when we found it was closed.

Just for the ease of it, we went to La Trattoria Restaurant inside our hotel for lunch.

We were very pleasantly surprised!

We were standing at the corner where our hotel was located and sort of meandered to look at the menu of La Trattoria posted outside. The host who was there suggested we try it.

He was friendly, we were hungry, and thought we'd have nothing to lose.

So inside we went.

This is a photo of La Trattoria's entranceway showing you the balcony seats available.

We were escorted to a balcony table right away.

La Trattoria is advertised as having traditional Italian cuisine with a special Mexican touch. There seems to be quite a bit of fusion food happening in these international cities and we are finding the meals to be tantalizing.

Filet with Roquefort sauce, La Trattoria Restaurant, Guanajuato, Mexico

Medallions of beef with Gorgonzola sauce

From the menu Billy chose the Medallions of beef with a Gorgonzola sauce. It came with a salad and sautéed potatoes.

The sauce was done perfectly and the beef was tender.

Filet of Bass with Shrimp

Sometimes I simply crave seafood, so I ordered the Filet of Bass with Fettuccini and Shrimp.

Both dishes were excellent.

Our largest meal of the day is lunch. When we can, we love to take two hours for this special time and enjoy what - to most - would be a special dinner.

We ordered an apple tart with ice cream, strawberries and a chocolate drizzle.

Right before we ordered our dessert, it began to rain, and here we were, sitting at a balcony seat.

Impressively, deftly, and with measurable aplomb, several waiters whisked our plates, beverages, napkins, chairs and table from being rained upon and moved us several feet back into the restaurant. We still had our balcony view, but this time, without being rained upon!

This is our bill for the lunch above. Before tip it came to about $43USD.

Just delicious and reasonably priced.

Here's a quick look at the menu at La Trattoria.

This is only one page and it lists Ribs of Lamb with seasonal vegetables, Filet of Tuna with French mustard, red potatoes and creamed spinach. The Divine Comedy is Beef Medallions with a sauce of four cheeses, shrimp and a sweet Mexican salsa.

So much to choose from and really delicious and creative options!

We enjoyed our food so much we decided to return. For whatever reason this day was very busy, so Billy tipped the host downstairs 50Pesos to get us in. Not only did he do so, he got us our balcony table!

This was our view, with the famous Union Plaza on the left, and the Teatro Juarez on the right.

A walking street is below.

Our hotel room is inside the building where La Trattoria is housed. It's all in the neighborhood!

This time we came back for a lighter lunch and Billy ordered a spinach salad with Prociutto ham and sliced Parmesan cheese. Balsamic vinegar is drizzled on the plate for decoration.

I decided to order a pear and blue cheese salad with nuts. As you can see it's a healthy portion and displayed beautifully.

For this quick and simple lunch, our bill came to $21USD before tip.

A few nights later a traveling friend met up with us and another traveling companion, meeting at our balcony table.

Billy and I shared a fried calamari appetizer as the 4 of us chatted and caught up on our stories.

Would we return?

Absolutely!

And we highly recommend it to you as well.
