Sayulita,
Nayarit, Mexico in
2021
An international surfing
destination!
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
Mexico's
Pacific Coast has a rugged beauty about it. It makes for great surfing and
Sayulita is one of the favored international surfing destinations in
Mexico's state of Nayarit.
As you may well know, we
generally stay at
Chacala
Beach just north of here where the town is small (300 residents) and the
waves are perfect for body surfing.
Billy has been wanting to
take
a boat from Chacala to Sayulita for a long time, and on this visit, we had
two other friends with us who couldn't wait to do the same adventure.
So we hired a lancha
to take us the 1.5 hours south to this famous surfing beach.

One of the many murals around town
This mural pretty much says it all.
Mostly young, tatted up surfers enjoying the
sand and the sun, wave after wave.
Surf's up!

Typical beach bar
After our harrowing landing on Sayulita's
beach, we went to this beach bar for happy hour to calm our nerves.
We're sure Jimmy Buffet was here somewhere!

You wanna be here!
There were lots of beach umbrellas with
chairs beckoning to everyone to sit and watch the sea.
You can almost hear the surf just by looking
at this photo!

Surfers having the time of their lives
This young woman is focusing on her ride
while another surfer watches the wave he is going to catch.

More surfers!
Surf riders watch the tide tables so they
know when to get out on the sea.
Hours and hours they ride and Sayulita is a
great place to meet other surfers from
different
countries.

Wipe out!!
Of course there is that occasional wipe out.
But it's all part of the fun and exercise.

This man has some style
It seems this man has some experience with
keeping his balance, and he looks very graceful on his board.

Surfer keeping her balance while hanging
five!
There are all levels of surfers here and this
young woman seems to be getting it down.
She looks GREAT!

Colorful letters spelling out Sayulita
All over Mexico, the current trend is to have
the name
of the city spelled out in huge, beautifully colored letters. Then tourists
have their photos taken in front of these letters, and it makes for an
attractive souvenir to show family and friends.

Akaisha at the most popular photo-op
street in town
This street is also very popular and people
have their photos taken here too.
Many restaurants are located on this street,
and wonderfully, they serve delicious food!

Yours Truly
We couldn't pass this background up for a
photo of us...
You know... all lovey-dovey with the hearts
and all!

Receiving surfing instructions
We walked past this young couple taking
surfing lessons. What a better place to do it than Sayulita!
The instructor was physically demonstrating
them what to be doing out in the sea while on their rented boards.
Curiously, the instructor asked his students
to first lie down on the board and the young man did so... except he lay down as
if he were in a beach chair with his back down on the board, and his face up
towards the sky.
Nope.
The other way around, my Friend!
Hey, at least he is out there!
Love it.
I tried learning how to surf in the chilly 59
degree waters of
Santa Cruz, California. Of course I had to wear a wetsuit to keep myself
from getting hypothermia!
This looked far more appealing!

Papaya smoothie
While the boys were out body surfing, I sat
back and enjoyed a papaya smoothie.
Yum!

Sayulita Beach
This is the beach where we tried to land in
the lancha we hired in Chacala.
It looks smooth and easy right now, but the
waves were up when we came in on the boat.
You can
read
the story here, and
watch the video of our ride here.

Surfer catching air
Graceful and balanced, like a dancer.
Beautiful.
If you are a surfer, you might put Sayulita,
Nayarit on your bucket list.
