We had just arrived in
Santiago
de Queretaro and were meeting friends at an Uruguayan grill named Rucula.
The restaurant promised the best cuts of meat from Uruguay, Argentina and the
United States.
It didn't open until 1pm,
and we were early. Not only that, but it was HOT outside. So we walked around
looking for a place to sit out of the heat and have a bottle of cold water until
the restaurant opened.
This is how we found
La
Birria 99 - which served the best birria we have ever had. We made a note to
return another day for lunch, but meanwhile... we sat, had an ice cold bottle of
water, then walked back to Rucula which was now open.

out towards the front entrance
Wide, open and spacious,
Rucula also offered Garden seating. Due to the heat, we decided to stay indoors
and wait for our friends to arrive.
Garden seating under a
plexi-glass sunshade
Here you see the lovely
garden area with an opaque sunshade.
We chose to sit indoors to
take advantage of any cooler temps that might be available.
Friends who lunch
It wasn't long before our
friends arrived.
We ordered water and other
beverages for lunch.
Then we took a look at the
menu.
The menu at Rucula
Rucula offers brochettes, a must-have cut of
meat called Vacio, baby pig called Lechon, chicken, goat, various other prime
cuts of beef, salads and pasta.
Main courses of meats run from $13USD for
brochettes to $73USD for a kilo Porter House steak.
The Picana
When we are staying in a hotel, Billy and I
like to share our meals so there isn't so much food left over.
Not all hotels have refrigerators or access
to a kitchen to warm left-overs, so we shared this Picana cut of beef, 350
grams.
Picana (also spelled Picanha) is the most
popular cut of meat in Brazil. In the States we call this the top sirloin cap.
North American butchers generally divide this
piece into other cuts like the rump, the round, and the loin.
Pear salad
We also shared a pear, Gorgonzola and
Prociutto salad with candied walnuts.
This was the most unusual presentation of
this that we have had.
Drizzled with a balsamic reduction, this
salad was flavor-packed!
The arrachera cut of beef
One of our friends ordered the arrachera - a skirt steak
- located
between the brisket and flank area of the cow.
Many confuse this cut with the flank steak,
but instead, it is located on the plate area. It is known for its flavor rather
than its tenderness, and is often marinated to tenderize it further.
Chocolate cake for dessert
For dessert, we bought a miniature cake made
with white chocolate, mousse, and ganache chocolate with raspberry drizzle.
This was shared by all 5 of us.
Isn't it beautiful? It was so artistically
presented and really
delicious!
The bill for 5 people
Our bill for 5 people came to 2,211Pesos or
$111USD. This included 5 meals, drinks, a bottle of wine and a cappuccino.
Our portion, since we purchased the cake and
shared the wine, was 1,000Pesos which is about $50USD.
So affordable, so delicious.
Service was good and the food was superb.
Would we return?
Absolutely!
