We have visited
Zicatela
Beach in
Puerto Escondido many times. However, it had been a while and it was time to
go again.
Billy and a friend took a
flight from Guadalajara to
Puerto Escondido for 3200 Pesos round trip. Arriving at the airport, it was a
280 Peso taxi ride17 minutes to get to Hotel Las Olas on one of Mexico's
International Surfing Beaches, Playa Zicatela.

Reservations had already been made for the
two of them for 850 pesos per night.
Now it was just a matter of checking
in, and getting to the beach for some lunch and a swim.

Pricing for rooms and apartments per night
Someone with a sense of humor erased the
extra zeros off the pricing on the sign above.
An air-conditioned room for two people is
800Pesos (about $40USD), and an apartment runs 1,000Pesos (about $50USD) a
night.

Common area on the ground floor
On the ground floor a shaded area is shared.
The pool is just a stone's throw away, and perhaps one might want to sit here
and dry off, or have a beer or a snack.
Wifi is available here in case you want to
catch up on business, email, or make a VOIP phone call.

View of the pool from common area
Here you see the refreshing pool is not far
from this shaded space.
The check-in office is down the little
hallway on the left. The owner's home is the two story building on the right.
Access to the beach is just across the
street.

The view up the hill
Hotel Las Olas offers rooms and apartments
for rent. You can see them here.
Clean white curtains are knotted to keep your
ocean view, but are readily available to block the sun on the hot afternoons.

Sparkling clean pool
Every afternoon Billy and his friend utilized
this refreshing pool to get the sea salt off and to cool down. Temperatures,
even in December, were in the high 80s (Fahrenheit), and this daily swim was a
requirement!
Then on to the air-conditioned room for a
restorative nap.
What a life!

Another shared area
On the second floor you have this direct view
of the walking path to the sea.
Playa Zicatela - the International Surfers
Destination - is right here.
Restaurants line the beach and both sides of
the street.

A closer look of this view
Here you see a closer look of this enticing
view.
C'mon down!
The popular swimming beach is
Playa Principal, to the right of this view. There are many restaurants to
choose from with
international food choices. There is a working ATM, but we
suggest you bring enough cash to last you for your trip. There are banks and other
ATMs up the hill in the center of Puerto Escondido in case you have need of
them.
Hotel Las Olas is a good value and has a
great location. Very clean.
Recommended.
