When one thinks of Mexico, vineyards are not the first thing that comes to mind. But we heard there were areas in the hills of Ensenada where wines comparable to those in Napa Valley, California were made.

Our restaurant was in Central California and we knew Napa Valley very well, so we just had to go and check this area out.

We booked round-trip tickets with Volaris Airlines for $126USD per person. Flying the short 3-hour trip from Guadalajara to Tijuana, we went outside the airport less than a kilometer to catch a bus to take us to Ensenada.

With our INAPAM cards, the hour-and-a-half bus ride cost us 193 Pesos each, less than $10USD. The bus took us down the coast and we saw the Pacific Ocean and beaches all along the way.

Finally! We made it!

Our hotel was in a clean neighborhood a bit of a walk to the downtown touristy area. This meant that it was pretty quiet.

An OXXO store (similar to a 711) was conveniently on the next corner so purchasing drinking water and miscellaneous items was easy.

We utilized Uber and Didi driving services often during our stay here, and we even had Uber deliver food!

So easy!!

Our king size bed

Our bed was nice and firm, we had a window to the outside, a Color TV, WiFi and air conditioner/heater.

Oddly, though, there was no place for our clothing, except a small table in the corner.

The bathroom was very clean.

Curiously, the water came out of the shower head in divergent streams so getting a complete shower and rinse off took skill.

The other strange thing... was the water was so filled with minerals, that soap and shampoo would not lather.

Being so close to the beach we found this very odd, as in our experience, the water at  beach locations is pretty clean.

The bathroom came with clean towels, soap, shampoo and a hair dryer.

It didn't take us long to figure out that this hotel room... seemed about 2-4 inches too small "everywhere."

We'd bump into the door opening, bump into the mattress, and it was hard to use the bathroom with the door shut.

It was one-way traffic continuously throughout the room, which we simply laughed off.

It was crazy!

What can you do?

A wall mural

This wall mural on the way to the dining room shows the deep water seaport and the famous vineyards here in Ensenada.

One of the best things the hotel offered was their breakfast included in the room price.

We have found that having breakfast included in our stay saves us both time and money. One can easily spend over ten Dollars for 2 for a morning meal outside the hotel. Our room price was about $43USD a night but if we took off $10USD for breakfast, the price came to about $33USD.

All considered, that was a pretty good price.

Hotel prices

As I mentioned, we paid about $43USD for our room with a king size bed through Booking.com

But those prices are not listed above.

The sign says Sunday to Thursday and that column is empty. The next column is Friday and Saturday and that one is empty as well. The last column says Special Events and lists the pricing, with the current exchange rate of 19.50 Pesos to the Dollar.

Would we return to this hotel? Probably. The rooms were cleaned daily, service was friendly, location was decent and the breakfast buffet was delicious and varied.
