L’angolo Dello Chef

This place doesn't look like much, but it's highly recommended and is considered to be a "hidden jewel" of Catania.

Locals praise the excellent food, good prices and friendly staff.

Located right on the street, L’angolo Dello Chef offers an original traditional Sicilian menu with a modern twist.

Come take a look.

The Chef's Corner

The translation of the restaurant's name means The Chef's Corner.

We heard about this place from a Canadian-Sicilian man named Rudy whom we met at a coffee shop in town.

Fiery and intense, Rudy says he’s leaving Catania forever, but by the way, you should try this restaurant up the block a little ways called L’angolo Dello Chef.

"You'll get a good meal, and it won't cost you much," he says.

Ok, we'll try it.

As you can see from the photo above, there are two entrances to the place. Since you can pay by credit card and take food home, this was quite a busy little restaurant.

Miscellaneous foods in open trays and on the counter above

Serving traditional Sicilian food, we were unsure of some of these dishes since none were clearly marked.

But it was such an active place, that we figured we'd try anything.

Everyone else seemed to recognize these offerings and weren't shy about ordering.

Pan of eggplant parmesan

Pans of food were everywhere, so we picked out our choices and the counter lady put the items into an aluminum container, gave us utensils and a napkin each and then I was able to pay for it by credit card.

The total came to $14.50Euros which is about $16USD.

Unnamed items on top, salads underneath

The fried items on the left look like fried oysters, but I think they are breaded zucchini.

And the squares on the right might be some stuffed pasta or a type of quiche.

It didn't matter, as the place was bustling and we made our selections quickly.

Grilled eggplant at L’angolo Dello Chef, Catania, Sicily

Grilled eggplant

Grilled eggplant - or eggplant in a variety of ways - is popular in southern Italy and Sicily.

Hot, cold and marinated, mixed with other vegetables in a medley, one almost always sees eggplant offered on an Italian menu.

Our meal at L’angolo Dello Chef, Catania, Sicily

Our meal

Billy had a flattened and fried-style chicken and a ratatouille of zucchini, eggplant and something else which made it taste kinda sweet.

I had the same ratatouille, an eggplant parmesan and a bit of fried zucchini.

The temperature of the food was a little cold, but for the price and convenience, it was good.

We sat outside right on the street.

Our bill for 2 at L’angolo Dello Chef, Catania, Sicily

Our bill for 2 people

The $2Euro charge at the top of the bill is for our 2 waters.

Each meal cost us $6.50 Euros, and since there is no tipping in Sicily, this amount was our total bill.

Would we recommend this place!

Yes!

It's worth the experience and the food was fresh and tasty.
