The Circus Bar, Panajachel,
Lake Atitlan
There are lots of good
restaurants to choose from in Panajachel, and it's one of the draws of living in
this lakeside town. One can find Italian, Japanese, Vegetarian, tipico, Chinese,
American and Mexican fare just to name a few choices.
The Circus Bar is an old
time favorite in the community. You can find good selections of Italian food,
pizza, salads, beef, chicken and fish. Portions are large it's a good value to
eat there.

A creative Salad Nicoise
Pictured here is the Circus Bar's rendition
of a Salad Nicoise. Living in the tropics, one gets used to having fruit as an
added ingredient to most meals. While an authentic Salad Nicoise doesn't have
watermelon, beets, or chopped radishes, this salad was tasty and filling, and
had the "required" hard boiled egg, green beans and tuna fish.

After having ordered, now waiting for our
meal
The Circus Bar has a German circus theme and
there are posters of clowns and circus acts on the walls throughout the
restaurant. In the evening, the Circus Bar is known for the live music they
offer, with each style of band staying an hour before the next band goes
onstage. They have a variety of cocktails and wines to choose from also.

Steak Roquefort
One of our favorite meals is their steak
Roquefort. This is one order, split between two plates which is plenty for us to
share. It comes with a lovely fresh salad and bread. The meat itself is tender
and the Roquefort sauce is to die for.

Circus Bar's easy going atmosphere
Located right on Avenida de los Arboles, it
is close to Calle Principal in the main section of town. There are several bars
and restaurants all within a stone's throw, and it is common to wander between
them in the evening, listening to music and talking with friends.
There is a piano to the right in this photo
which the musicians use, and a garden setting just outside the photo to the
left. If you like to be connected to the internet on your phone, there is free
WiFi also.

Our check
The price for our meal of steak Roquefort, a
salad, a half liter of red wine and a lemonade is about $28USD. This includes
the tip which is written on the check.
If ever you are in Panajachel, make it a
point to visit the Circus Bar. Come for the locally famous pizzas, one of their
platos fuertes, a salad or a drink and the live music. You won't be
disappointed.
