2016 Annual Spending Update

Billy and Akaisha Kaderli

Running around Antigua, Guatemala

About six years ago we produced this video: Adventures in Financial Independence where we listed our annual spending and daily average.

We like to keep up-to-date with our Readers as to what our current spending is and as of the end of 2016, our average spending for 26 years of financial independence or 9490 days, is $22,278 annually or $61.04 per day. This is an increase of .47 cents per day over 2015 spending figures.

At the same time our net worth has continued to climb outpacing inflation after spending. With over a quarter of a century of experience, I think we are getting the hang of this lifestyle and financial freedom.

Generally speaking, we have been living in cost beneficial countries such as Guatemala, Mexico, Vietnam, and Thailand, thus positively affecting our numbers. The Peso-to-Dollar exchange right now is a great deal, making Mexico seemingly on sale.  But the year before we also flew to Panama, the Dominican Republic, and stayed in Naples, Florida for 5 months to share with family and friends.

We self-insure for health care, taking advantage of medical services in the countries where we stay. And when we go to the States we take out a Traveler's Health Insurance Policy from World Nomads to cover our time there. A couple of years ago at age 62, we decided to begin taking our Social Security. Billy has made some adjustments to our portfolio using ETFs which allows him to buy and sell in real time, and take advantage of market downturns, as well as market upswings.

House sitting from time to time has helped with housing costs.

We continue to eat well, live and travel comfortably and make visits to the States regularly to see family. It's a GREAT life.

If we can do it, you can too!
